Hooray. We're moving. So on top of the super unstressful packing up things and making sure work can get done still, we just upgraded our OS's from 10.3.whatever to 10.4.10.
Hooray. Now I can't double click on desktop icons or drag them to the apps in the dock to open them, they have to be opened from native file menus.
Hooray. I have to re-set up the printers. Which will have to be done again after we move in less than two weeks.
Hooray. I can't place unflat psd files in InDD - it tells me it was saved without maximum compatibility. It is wrong. But who am I to argue.
Hooray. Floods of biblical proportions are plaguing the local area. And I don't have a boat. Maybe I can fashion a raft out of my truck tires and some scrap lumber.
Hooray. I have a cold, the sinus creeps got me.
Jesus hates me. More on this story as it develops.

this stuff owns man. it'll knock your cold down with like 3 days. i used it friday and felt a lot better by saturday and pretty much fine by monday.

I don't think OS 10.4.10 would affect your being able to double click on files or drag and drop them over the applications to open them. We do it here all the time.
I wonder if your upgrade didn't get hozed in the process. You may need to format and do a clean install.

On the bright side, I should never get a sinus infection for the rest of my life, because I don't think I have any sinuses anymore...

LBA have you tried repairing permissions through disk utility and maybe trying a fsck through the shell mode to see if that fixes some of your upgrade woes.

We always do a clean install between OS cats. I heard of far too many problems going the upgrade route between Panther and Tiger. I'm still having problems with Acrobat 8. Adobe blaming Epson and Apple, Epson and Apple blaming Adobe. Circle jerk...

I might actually try that. But as bad as my sinuses are, I'm going to go for broke and make my own neti bong, using a garden hose and a 5 gallon bucket. And I'll make sure that I'm at ground level and the bucket is on a second or third story to generate enough pressure to blast the sinus creeps to smithereens.

The neti bong didn't work out so well. By the way, you'd think whiskey would do wonders for your sinuses, but not so.
Seriously though, I might pick up one of those things. It will have to be an internet purchase of course, there's no way I'd be caught out in public buying one of those things. Do they have them at the dirty bookstores off the I in Kenosha? And I'll have to lock all the doors and close the blinds before I start Using the Pot.
