Data merge in InDesignCS2 or CS3

Greetings all gurus

I need to create various reference posters (A1 size) with variable data (excel files). Is there a way to get the data out of Excel to automatically create data tables in InDesign? Not sure how long each poster's data will be, so need something that will create a table with however much data there is.

Can anyone help?

With basic Indesign you can place XML files into your document and have those be live data. You can certainly produce the XML from Excel. Unfortunately, as I understand it, the XML import does not work so well with tables.

There are some plugins that do more or less what you're looking for - or are supposed to, ayway - but I've never tried them.
