Do you guys like to sketch out the "design" for you graphics first or do you just jump in and do it as you go? I'm not that great at drawing but I always try and sketch a rugh draft first.

For me it depends on the piece. If it's a simple piece and I mentally know where things are likely to go, I'll go right for the computer. If it's something totally new or more complicated, I'll whip out a few sketches first.

I've been sketching out ideas for my coworker to produce. I found he works very well if given distinct direction - else he tends to tangent off on photoshop effects. *smirk*
With direction he can produce nearly to the "T" whatever I draw on paper. I even give him CMYK #'s to work from.
For myself - rarely draw it out, unless it's an actual illustration concept. I usually have everything in my head from reading the brief /talking with the client. 99.9% of the time it works out great. That .01% no one ever lets me forget.

Paper and pencil are my friends, lol
Usually the more worked out on paper it is the easier it is to create for production. This isn't true for all things such as typographic intensive work but, generally I always try and have a rough idea on paper regardless of the format. Then there are things like logos where you should really stay of the computer and work up the entire thing on paper or at least thats what I belive. Same can go for posters and smaller format type projects. Page intensive things I usually establish a general grid and rough placement guidelines on paper and go from there. It depends the project. if more conceptual work is involved then it usually left to paper

I sketch MOST things out before I take them onto the computer. It doesn't have to be highly detailed in that stage, but I definitely find that it helps to have ideas down on paper before I touch the computer.
It all depends on the piece for me. Anything that requires strong concept work, is definitely sketched out. Logos are never done without a sketch, obviously.
My quick-turnover designs, like display ads, just get put together on the screen. I use my immense powers of imagination for that.

I draw most of the time, unless I already have what I want to make formulated in my head.
