I just got my first Macbook from work. I've used Macs in school, but I've been a Windows user most of my life, so I'm still poking around trying to figure everything out. I have a question regarding mapped drives.

I have several folders and drives that I use on our server here at work. I went in and mapped each drive and then I created aliases to each of these drives so I could easily access each one from my desktop.

However, whenever I click on one of the aliases, another copy of that alias appears on my desktop until I drag it to the trash to disconnect it. For example, if I click on an alias entitled "G Drive", then another icon entitled "Drive G" will temporarily appear on my desktop until it's disconnected.

After clicking on several of these aliases, my desktop gets pretty messy!

Is there a way to stop this from happening or is it something that is standard with Macs?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

yes, in your finder, click on File/Preferences and uncheck the show connected servers box.

Maybe try and trash the aliases you created and use the ones that pop up?

It's not an alias that's being created. It's just that your server is being mounted and displayed on your desktop. Easily fixed in your finder's preferences.

You can also drag your shortcuts into your dock so your desktop isn't cluttered up with all of them.
