Husband's company advertised for a document something-or-other/graphics person 29 hrs a week so I registered online with the company (pain in the battody, art resume just doesn't translate well sometimes!). Hubby also sent my resume (newly revised and approved with advice and critique from placement counselor at college) directly to head of the department.
He got an email this morning from lady saying that there was no mention of whether or not I knew Microsoft Word and whether or not I had a secret clearance. He emailed back saying that, since I've done transcription work IN WORD for eight years and that the job skills listing that I was PROFICIENT IN WORD at the bottom of the resume meant that yes, it was safe to assume that I knew Microsoft Word and that since the job description stated that a clearance was DESIRED not required that I was applying for the job anyway.
She emailed back and said that since they work in a closed area, they couldn't trust just anyone and so a clearance was required for them to work in that area (so why not put REQUIRED in the description?). Also, they did a lot of inserting tables and graphics into Word documents and that a lot of times they had to work overtime in order to make sure the tables were lined up and everything was arranged, it was a very time consuming job, did I think I could do that type of work? I guess she also ignored the part in the skills section that listed my proficiency in Adobe CS if she even knew what the hell it was.
I told hubby to email her back, telling her that I had no problem using Word but I felt more comfortable using InDesign for page layouts and basically, just never mind, thank you anyway, have a nice day.
The whole deal just really pissed me off, questioning my proficiency yet they're "working overtime, long hours" because they're too cheap/ignorant to use the correct software for the task.
Excuse me, my attitute is showing.
