Why I f*@#ing HATE Windoze!

First off, let me state that I have to work with the PC everyday, as well as work with my amazing PowerMac.

So, here we go...

I cannot stand how Word handles graphics, fonts, layout, totally different than any other application.
I cannot stand how you cannot trust anything on the screen for being correct.
I cannot stand how when you print something to your LaserJet for proofing it looks one way, but generate a PDF and it is totally different.
I cannot stand how when you finally get everything working on your end and send the PDF, document, etc to someone else it is totally f--ked up.
I cannot stand how every time our tech support guy 3,936 miles away does any little thing to the server, it effects my computer adversely. And he is an absolute genius by the way... no lie. So, I do not blame him in any way, he is just working with the bone knives and bear skins the company provided him with... called Win-f-cking-Dows!

Here's what I mean... I created a batch file to back up every file in a given folder to an identical folder on the server... it works. Then, the tech guy adds an additional hard disk to the server mapped totally different than the one I write too... but, now the batch file won't work. We cannot do anything to get it to work. No explanation, just failure. So, now I have to burn a 4GB folder to DVD every two to three days and I risk losing a few days work if the system ever goes down.

And, everytime the tech guy does something to the server, my system drags to a slow crawl because f--cking windoze cannot do anything without accessing every single mapped drive, network place, and VPN by sending it's stupid little feelers out. So, if I want to add a file on my hard drive to an eMail, I have to click 'Insert File' and wait ten minutes for Windoze to look everywhere before bringing up a window for me to choose a file in... but then I click on the C: drive and wait another ten minutes for Windoze to again search every nook and cranny instead of just showing me what I want. then I click on a folder in the C: Drive and... you guessed it... another wait.

Most of the time the system just says 'This Program is not Responding' and down it goes like a two dollar whore!

Piece of freaking SH-T!!!!!

Oh. and don't get me started about what happens when the server goes down (which happens three or four times a week). Of course, the server is a Dell running Windows Server sh-t software!

First off what are you doing using Word to design? Secondly man, sounds like you need to wipe watever puter it is, reload your OS, and get your Tech guy back in school.

For the record I run on a network, with several servers, and ive never had a problem. You also might wanna check out my review in the resources section on how to keep your PC clean from spyware, as this could be your problem with your network being so fuzzy....to many things trying to connect.

Nope, I have run Adware and cleaned the system. The PC is a brand new Sony VAIO because my last three systems were Dells that were all crap. There are no viruses, no internet usage with the system in any way... it is all done on the Mac. The only thing I do with the PC is compatibility files with the comapny that pays for the system.

I do not do any design work in Word... what I do in Word is memos and letterhead templates for other people in the company.

But my consensus of Windoze is still the same. I will never put one single dime of my own money into Windows. It's too full of holes, too many virii, too many security flaws, too little consistencies, and way too much margin for error.

And never any answers. Just people comparing their usage to mine and throwing up their arms and saying... it must be you, or your network, or your tech guy, etc. It is none of these... it is Windows, plain and simple.

Case in point, if I create a file in Quark and print it out on my laser printer it looks one way. Then I Distill the file with Adobe Acrobat Pro and make it a PDF and print it. The grays are all lighter than they are when printed from Quark.

Using the exact same settings on the Mac with the exact same file... what is printed from Quark and from a PDF generated the same way with the same exact settings in Acrobat Pro looks the same. No difference.

Sorry, nothing will change my mind. Gates blows, Windows is crap, and PCs are a dime a dozen and you get what you pay for.

Not trying to start a pc/mac war... just my observations and using the soapbox to vent my frustrations... that's what the soapbox forum is for, right?

I have heard the Sony VAIO can be trouble. I don't know personally but I say kick it, smash it, throw it off the top of your house (building) and burn the stupid PC. Then just work on your Mac. Sound like a solution?

Just kidding! I work on a PC too. Drives me nuts too. Makes that Imac G5 really attractive!

No kidding LOL. I spoke with the Chairman of the company about what would happen if I threw the system out the 'Window'... he just laughed. He said it sounded like Windows. Doesn't make sense that people are just willing to live with this sort of thing when it shouldn't have to be like this.

It can all be so much better.

You like what you like! Windows works for me just fine but for others not and the same with MAC's. I think it is crazy how many PC MAC threads get started. It is almost as useful as talking about Religion.

EV, have you thought about getting a USB or Firewire external drive (if your PC is configged for it) to do your backup on instead of burning expensive DVD's? I use an 80 gig Firewire to do my nightly backup cuz I don't trust OUR Windows based server to run the tape at night. Only takes about 5-10 minutes on the Firewire.

I do not have to consider anything. I have requested of the employer to purchase a external drive--back when the issues started raising their ugly heads... I'm not an idiot. They turned it down. They would rather keep paying for DVDs for some reason.

Most of the logic is because the owner of the company holds a number of shares in Microsuck stock.

And it is not an issue of you liking what you like Cuda... it is being forced to work on an inferior structure, so don't be a moron.

LOL at all no reason to get testy EV! There are alternative operating systems as PrintDriver said and once again it is defiantly a personal preference issue. There are as many people out there that hate MAC's and think they are inferior as there are PC haters. 'Can't we just all get along!!!' No hard feelings!

your using a Sony computer..... BINGO>>>> THATS THE PROBLEM.... its a college kids internet/ word processing computer its not made for our hardcore designing.... thats cause were all bad asses and we need top notch machines that can launch rockets and turn circles into oval with a simple click. My computer was had built by steve jobs himself and I truely believe that all computer are not created equally. But one day yes one day the computer will rise up from the slave that we have made them and destroy the human race. They will harvest our energy and we will be slaves to them. So please oh people of the GDF respect your computer DO NOT threathen them unjustly. If they need a little air spray in the keyboard then remove the dust and treat them as equals because one day they will be our masters......
