it's not actually the square that reverses the type, it's the invisible character beside it.

Check out the link hewligan posted. Follow the link in the original post of that thread, and copy the square and the character beside it. Pretty neat.

I'm heading over to the other thread to see if I can find my answer there.

See you all over there. :)

Is my PC displaying this thing weird or something? Everyone keeps referring to it as a square but on mine it displays as circle of short line like spokes or a little sun.

*rubs hands together and laughs maniaclly*It might create scary problems with time travel. Sort of like putting a mirror on a copy machine or microwaving instant coffee. I would advise against it.

Well, I've got a Mac at home - where I see a square - and a PC at work - where I see a circle, so that probably explains that one.

It's strictly a non-printable character, so if you sent it to a RIP, you should see nothing.

I'm on a pc, and I see a square.
I'm using Maxthon, which is based on IE if memory serves.

Think it's a browser thing?

Well, it's a non-printing control character, so if it is displayed, it's up to the application to render it. So, yeah, it'll look different depending on what you're using.

It's actually Unicode Character 'RIGHT-TO-LEFT OVERRIDE' (U+202E) (http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/202e/index.htm). It is possible to type it, but in Windows you have to alter a registry setting to allow Unicode input. Since I only have access to Windows at work, where I don't have permission to fiddle with the registry, I can't try it.

I can't seem to find any ways of directly entering unicode on a Mac.

I see a question mark too. Now...why would we want to write backwards again? As if we don't deal with enough copy from clients that don't make any sense!

It worked for me in Maxthon.

It's not actually the square that reverses the type, it's the invisible character beside it.

Check out the link hewligan posted (above). Follow the link in the original post of that thread, and copy the square and the "space" containing the invisible character beside it.

Between the arrows is the character you need.

Oh! Easier answer!

Go to this page (http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/202e/browsertest.htm). On the page is a text entry field labelled "Input Test." Click in it a do a select all (cmd/ctrl-a). It won't look like you've selected anything, but you have, only it's invisible. Copy that and paste it where you like.

‮Befor you know it you'll be typing backwards with the rest of us!
