hey guys, I'm always trying to think of different ways of outputting documents... i get bored with stitched and perfect-bound booklets... i found this today...
http://www.creativetechs.com/iq/discover_pocketmod.html
does anyone else have any inspirational ways of outputting things? any other ways of making booklets with a minimum of extra attachments like staples etc? there must be other interesting ways of outputting a booklet somewhere out there...

neat link, thanks Cap'n. I seem to remember bookmarking something similar a loooong time ago... if I can find it, I'll be sure to add it to this thread.
(you probably shouldn't get your hopes up though... it was a LONG time ago!)

No way! I did that once for a Uni project - one of our lecturers was really into paper mechanics so I learned a few things from her but have since forgot. My project was for street guide with the book side being text/image info on shops and the large reverse side was the map.
Ideal for when you need a book section and a poster section. The poster is hidden away when the book is being viewed.

Damn, I also recall her showing us how to make an accordion fold book with a thicker cover and spin on one side from some sheets of paper all folded tightly together with no glue. I vaguely remember it being called a Japanese Accordion fold but no luck on Google so far. Everything I have seen so far uses glue.

I tried making one to see if I could jog my memory. I think the inside accordians was 1 long strip (easy) but if you wanted to make it longer, you could do some kind of origami fold to attach another long sheet for the accordian. Then the covers where folded and slotted on tightly.
Hope that helps a little. Maybe check out the libary for Japanese book binding techniques?

i found this site ( http://www.graemedawes.co.uk/ ) but it talks about using paste rather than origami... the quest continues... ;) :D

I'll be perusing through it to see if I can find something a little different for my own promo stuff and portfolio.
A lot of people have started to ask for "something a little different" with their jobs recently. Lets see how different I can get. ;)

i tried it AT work ;) :D it's pretty cool... but not very easy to actually put anything on any pages.. think it's more of a construction thing rather than a practical thing.

Yes, I recall making a booklet like that when I was in Promary school...don't recall what the project was about.
Thanks for that link Captain'!
