If you don't know how to make it, I doubt that you'll make anything that looks like an actual cover)
Photoshop and/or illustrator is what you need. :)

Photoshop would be good, but instead of spending a 40+ hours learning how to use it and $600 to buy it, why don't you photocopy the mag cover, print out your friend's pic and do a collage mock up. Then photocopy the whole thing together so it's all on 1 piece of paper. That way you will save money and time!
I take my magical wand and hover it a few times over the paper and there it is. You really should try it- saves a lot of time and money. Software… who needs that?- I mean really!

I would suggest to use Photoshop, We've done that before when my boss go back to denmark as a farewell gift we edited her photo in photoshop make it look funny and then printed it in her mug which has a caption "Miss Boss" :D

If you don't have Photoshop already, Paint.net (http://www.getpaint.net/) and GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/) are free bitmap editing programs that work in a similar fashion.

It's got Photoshop newb written all over it but I gotta say, not bad, for a beginner. I'm not sure about script fonts for a Goalie zine though.
Holl?

you have a spelling error on your cover. :p
So is your goal to mimic poor design?
I'm not getting what your say with directing me that link…
In all honesty you should only include one or two contrasting faces not 8 or 9 like you have. Even those mag covers don't have 8 or 9 fonts.
I might have misinterpreted what you are saying though so correct me if I'm wrong.

Generally you have the mast head, and then a different font for the "call outs". Some 'zines will use different fonts on the call outs, but to look professional, I'd stick to one or two.

as a general rule of thumb, you should not use more than 3 fonts in a design.

you know what tho, looking at the website, yours is good enough to pass the mustard.
lol
I'm curious though is it nine fonts? I think i counted nine but, could be off?

Don't be too hard guys...that "Goalie's World" mag layout isn't exactly a great model to use, but he's trying to replicate it after all to pull off the joke...atrocious though it may originally be. So in that sense, uh...mission accomplished? ;)
Your friend will enjoy it at least.

Just get some references. Look at some magazine covers, and see the fonts they use, how many, the layout etc. I am not saying copy them but its always good to work from references and having what you are aiming for in front of you.

not bad for a newb...aside from using way too many fonts and scaling your image up (or is it just a blurry pic)....
you made me chuckle with the "no poster inside" text....i like that.
I think this was a just for a one time deal so I wouldn't look into it to heavily, lol.

HEllo people... some of these posts sound like you guys are telling this guy how to make a Good layout of a magazine cover. The problem is he isn't trying to do that. He's trying to replicate a poorly designed cover as a joke, like those photo booths that put you on the cover of popular magazines.
Sorry, but maybe i'm just being a bit sensitive today, but some posts are critiquing the pic as if to make it 'better', but in this sense of his goal, (wow a pun), he hit the mark pretty well.
so, yeah, i agree with seapony.

Just looked at the cover of Goalie's World. hahahahaha. You hit it spot on actually. Just a little in making the font bolder, like using Arial Bold.
http://img474.imageshack.us/img474/9772/magcovergoaliesworldsk5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
If you look at this cover, the fonts are bold, no san serif stuff. And you got yourself an exact replica.
This person is not a designer.
This person obviously doesn't care so let the thread die in peace.
Its over,lol
