This weekend, they moved my cubicle from one floor to another.
Well, some troglodyte dropped my computer during the process. They broke a bunch of the keys off my keyboard, then put them all on in the wrong places (like they were fooling someone)!
See the attached photos for the kicker.
I mean, how the heck do you bend 1/8" aluminum!?!?
And the thing is, I was informed that IT would be moving the computers, not the regular moving goons. If I had known that my Mac Pro would be tossed around like the crappy $250 Dell specials they have here, I would have moved the stupid thing myself. I'm just glad I backed up all my files last week in anticipation of the move.
Welcome to Monday!

Holy butterfingers, bat man! That sucks BK. Is everything working okay as far as you can tell?

Yeah, the computer seems to be working. The keyboard worked fine once I put all of the keys back where they belong. I'm still pretty pissed about it, though.
At least nothing happened to my display. I would really have pitched a fit if something happened to that.

How in the name of all things Avodaco did they crush a G5?
I've just grabbed a hold of the works G5 and tried to bend and twist it with all my might. I got a sore hand for my troubles. Did they play basketball with your baby?
Make sure to document this and report it to your company. You wouldn't want it coming back on you later on down the road.

DEFINITELY! Can you imagine?

I'm thinking it's one of two things:
1. It fell down the stairs
2. It fell down the elevator shaft
I've shown my co-workers what happened, and they all said the same thing as you, Spug. They see the solid aluminum and say, "How the heck did they do that?"

Never built an exhibit for a childrens' museum have you. LOL!
I've had little children not only bend but break 1/4" aluminum bonded to Delrin.
I can imagine the damage a large mover guy can do.

geez BK ... at least it still works ... but someone needs to be accountable for that damage :(

Update:
I just had the Associate Director of Facilities and a high level IT guy come and take a look at my Mac. They're going to contact the moving company and see what can be done. They asked that I send specs of the damaged machine to them.
All I know is that someone is going to pay for the computer, and that someone is not going to be me.
EDIT: Oh, and apparently the computer was stacked on top of at least four moving crates when it was moved. Yup, that would explain the damage.
It must have made a heck of a noise when it came crashing to the floor...

I'd go with option 1. option 2 is to likely that the moving guy would probably be dead (darn!).
I'd make the moving guy pay to have it fixed. Thats a very expensive "oops".

Dang! That's rough! (Literally) They should pay for a brand new one with all the specs to the max. I would be seriously pissed.

Dang! That's rough! (Literally) They should pay for a brand new one with all the specs to the max. I would be seriously pissed.Yeah, I was on fire when I came in this morning.
The Mac is a baseline Mac Pro, so I won't be after them to get higher specs. Plus, the work I do isn't very demanding on this machine, so I wouldn't benefit by getting a faster one.
Honestly, I'd rather have a G5 instead of the Mac Pro, because Adobe CS2 has been giving me headaches on the Intel chip. If I were running CS3 it would be fine, but the older software just doesn't work so great on the newer hardware.

Wow BK. That stinks! Did they really think they could just leave it without saying anything or anyone noticing? That's pretty poor service, at least if someone came clean and appologized and offered to replace it, but to just leave it and put wrong keys back on the keyboard, that's pretty low.
Philosopically, if a computer falls off a stack of moving crates and the owner is not around to hear it, does it make a sound? The movers don't count in my scenario for no other reason than it would ruin my whole little philosophical question, which is now sounding quite stupid the more I think about it :D just trying to make you get a chuckle out of it BK, but with a lame attempt now.....

I'm pretty sure about the first part happening. That second part, not so much.
Unfortunately, I know that this is just going to be covered by the moving company's insurance. I kind of wish it would be taken straight from the responsible person's paycheck instead.

There’s a real possibility the hard drive was damaged in such a fall, and things inside may have been knocked around. I would have them check the drive, do some sort of scan to see if there are any bad/non functional parts on the drive due to scratching or anything that could have occurred.

Hope you get a replacement.
I have the same computer as you at work. The computer came back from the computer doctor with a scrape across the top of the tower. The CD drive also now sticks when I try to open it. Problem is, it could have been:
the printer that kindly drove the computer to the computer doctor.
the computer doctor's rough handlers
our delivery guy that picked it up from the printers
Since it could be anyone, I haven't said anything because I can't prove who it was.

First thing I said when I saw that was "What the pancake did they do?" I would have flipped out, heh. I've always been extremely good in taking care of my electronics. Heck, every time we moved I would pack all my electronics stuff in a box and have it sit in the seat next to me, I didn't trust anyone else. Hopefully you can get a new one soon!

And also what the hell is panckaking?

from our new user faq:
Question: What does "pancake" mean?
Answer: "Pancake" is the word that was automatically substituted by our old forum software in place of a certain versatile four-letter swearword. It is still used today (although it has to be typed in manually) to keep the tradition alive. Actually, there are lots of odd "inside jokes" that have developed here over the years... and most of them are explained in this thread: so, can someone explain...
