Hey all,
Hope your all well. Just a quick query I thought I'd throw out there for some advice. I personally don't have too much experience in overprint. I only do it ocassionally really and it's always been with colours and on stock that I knew were going to give me the results I desired. I'm working currently on a series of illustrations where I wish to use overprinting however due to the colours I'm unsure if it will actually show. I'm looking at overprinting a metallic silver (8180C) on regular balck, My concern is that this isn't going to look good in places where the image behined the metallic is 100%. Will there be any differentiation where it is 100% black or completely lost? My other option instead of silver is a green however this would not be a pantone rather it would be a make of cmyk so I figure isn't really the same thing. The stock is a silk finish. Called Impress by Spicers (Australian)

Look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Your printer is going to be your best friend on this one. Call them up and see what they suggest. Metallics can be tricky.

Definately call the printers.

I work at a printers and I know that we can pick up different makes of Pantone Silver. Some of them are more opaque than others.

Your printers will be know the characteristics of their inks and will be able to advise you accordingly.

Thanks, yeah I already figured that would be the best thing to do, yet I thought someone might of already had such an experience working directly with the same idea, silver overprint on black that is. The thing with the silver too is that I'm not adverse to changing it however it is a brand colour for the company. I'd have to see how different the actual colour of a 'heavier' silver would be before I could go off and use it. Having said that I doubt they would even notice if I did use a slightly different shade.

You could always knock it out, wouldn't be a big deal. Metallics do overprint nicely but I can't really see the point in risking it.
