I know this may sound lame but I notice in Quark if working on a catalog you can have more then one layout. My question is why would you and when should you do that? How does it help?
Thanks

If I'm doing some corporate ID, I'll keep business cards on one layout, letterhead on another etc. But for catalogues I find it more of a hinderance than a help, especially if you're sharing files as you have to flick through the tabs to find stuff and it's really easy to miss items.
Plus I don't think you can collect the whole job (all layouts) it just collects the layout you're on. So, in summary, I rarely use them and usually keep one quark layout for each project, keeping them organised in their files..
I do remember getting exicted about them bringing it out, as I thought that you'd be able to put different sized PAGES within one layout - That I would use!
when you say layout do you mean the style of the page or a completely new document (size, shape format)?
page style/layout - would depend on personal taste, some catalogues become stail if they are the same all the way through - new layouts can be used to identify a new range, male or female or a new theme/concept - in which cause a new layout would help sell the items displayed.
Although try to keep the product information as consistent as possible.
As for the Layout, interms of format, size shape, new document etc I am not sure, I guess if it helps with above but this may come down to cost, printing and colating will increase depending on how the document changes.
Its up to you and how deep your clients pockets are!!
