I have a client who is interested in me redesigning a logo for him. Here is what he said:
"I like some of your logo. I would like you to design my logo for me. Now before I hand you any money or my design I would like to come to your office and meet you in person.
So if you give me you phone I will call you and book an appointment.
Thanks"
I don't have an office - I work at home. I am not sure how to respond back without giving him the wrong impression. I was thinking a contract or sending him references - so he can feel more comfortable.

Be honest. Tell him your office is at home and either invite him in to sit at the kitchen table with you or offer to meet him at his office or in a coffee shop nearby.

Ok. I found out that he is from a different state. I guess I can tell him that I only communicate either thru phone or email.

LOL. Since there's probably a slim chance he'll show up, invite him to the corporate offices. ;)

Do you get good response from Craigslist ads?

Hi G Designz,
Here is what I would do. I would offer to send him additional samples and testimonials from other satified customers.
What he is really saying is that he likes your work but wants to verify your credibility. So do that ahead of time. Again, this is often done through testimonials. Even offer to have him call a satisfied client of yours.
Really make him feel like you are credible, recommended and good. Do what you can to install that "feeling" in him.
Hope this helps.

Hi G Designz,
This is how I would deal with it.
The first is be yourself and be honest, and say,"you are FREELANCER, a designer who don't need to have an office to do the work. The technology gives that flexibilty. Now, if you want to meet a professional setting, then that's fine. I know of an office enviroment which I can hire for customers as I know sometimes, that can be the case if they are bringing a customer with them, and its a subcontract work from their own client."
Second thing, the reason he has said this is only to know you are the designer, knows where you are and for transparency when payment is given.
If he acts funny and says, "Oh, you don't have an office then," well, reply, "I didn't have an office designing the logos you liked in my portfolio. I can get one and charge more. Much more."
That's it. Don't bend your belief, your philosophy in how you want to deal in business. If they're looking for status, office and not skill, talent, then no problem, go somewhere else. All you gotta do is instil belief that your credible and honest is best. As someone said, let him speak to some of your clients too. No probs.
The client likes your work, skill, and that's what is the primary thing not some office. Be transparent, be honest and that's all you can do. Or, one lie, will lead to another and you won't do business comfortably.
You got nothing to prove. You got the skill, he likes what he sees, and that's that. Build your business and vision with ethics and you're business will grow and be known for that too.

Tell him you don't have a branch in his state, so he needs to come to the main headquarters in your state. :D
