I know there's tons of threads about copyright infringement and using other images and other peoples work in your own designs...... but what about all those songs you hear on flash websites (specifically photography portfolio types). Is there a procedure to follow when choosing music for a flash website? (and I'm not talking about putting the sound on/off button there, etc.)

look for royalty free loops or something along those lines. i know flashkit.com has some stuff. you're better off making it yourself. garageband is super easy to use and it comes with a bunch of loops that you can put together.
I have seen a blue TON of sites that actually have a singer/song on them. Usually wedding or photography sites. (nicely done flash ones)

I was wondering this myself last night, as there are a bunch of Flash sites with this kind of music. I know iso50 does his own stuff and has his own music, but I don't think every Flash site is done by the designer/musician renaissance man/woman.
I wonder what hiring managers would think if I put some Gwar in my future Flash site.

well they are either pay/ know the artist or they steal it and hope to not get caught.

http://beatsuite.com/ is where we get our loop music from. Decent quality, and good pricing.
Other places that have actual "songs" listed and a snippet is ok, the full song playable is not ok unless you have permission/license to do so.
many places use the ignorant plea and will wait for a cease and desist before they'll remove it.

creative commons is the best that I know of for electronic stuff. My buddy made an entire minimal CD with all of the stuff on that site.

Gwar is still around? Kewl! (snicker).
I went to see them once way back in the late 80s or early 90s. I was taking a Foam casting class taught by a guy who helped with their gore back then.
<Another career track killed by CGI - sigh - though I heard there was work doing prosthetics for patients with face disfiguring cancer...checked it out, couldn't do it.>
Doesn't Jupiter have a music site or six? See masthead at the bottom of every forum page...

Wasn't there a movie with Ethan Hawke from a while ago where he took a girlfriend with him to a GWAR concert, and it shows Oderus or someone 'decapitating' someone or something on stage? I lol'd.

And in Empire Records, Ethan Embry's character Mark hallucinates that he joins GWAR on the TV. Ethans love GWAR?
Hey, Mark! You love Gwar! Why don't you join the band?
