You guys gave me so much feedback and good advice on the logo, I'm posting two card options I'm thinking of. I thought I should stick with something similar to (if not exactly) the font used IN the logo itself, but keeping in mind it needs to be readable. I'd like it to be a bit "funky", but not so much so that it gets lost on whoever views it.

Let me know what you guys think! The left or right one, or give me your thoughts on what I can change!

Thanks!

Laura

I like the bottom one. :)

now that you edited your post, this post makes no sense... lol. I like the RIGHT one.

morea - cool... you think it's ok to put the logo on the front AND the back?

ditch your list of services. Its not needed...

I like the right card. But vertically align your phone numbers. Looks odd with it starting at 2 different points. Space the bottom one out some if need be.

Why is 'L'aura caps, but 't'uele isn't?

Is it really necessary to have 'over 20 years experience' on BOTH sides of your card?

Oh, and baseline shift your '@' sign in your email address. It's a little saggy compared to the rest of the line...

Taken individually, I like the two images on the right over the two on the left... but now that you mention it, I don't know if I would put the logo on both sides.

I really prefer the face of the one on the right, but I also like the layout of the back side of the one on the left. Of course, if you put those two together you'd need to change the green screen to match the face on the right, and I'm not sure that would be a great idea with the 3 column layout.

Gak, I'm like an indecisive client... sorry, don't mind me. I really like the face of the one on the right. Apparently I can't give you a straight answer about the back right now. I'll try again later. :D

Why is 'L'aura caps, but 't'uele isn't?

I think that's the way the font is designed.

I thought the list might be helpful, since so many people don't always think of what gamut can be covered for graphics/printing. Mostly I guess it's just suggestions...

Ya. I see what you mean on the phone numbers.

On the font, that just seems to be the nature of that particular font. There's no upper/lower case. It just is what it is. I thought it looked kinda weird too, but I would have to use a T from a different font to make it so. Not that that's not doable, of course. ;)

LOL! I didn't notice I had the experience line on there twice! Thanks!

Honestly I thought when I saw your post about a business card it would be vertical. That would give you LOTS of room for a nice wave-y river line!

I prefer both cards on the right... Even if they dont belong together, they should!

CkretAjint

There's no upper/lower case. It just is what it is.

Wrong... Be a graphic designer and create your own upper case 'T'! Then you customized it that much more to fit your needs. Normal people/customers might not notice that, but YOU went the extra step and you will know it each time you hand out a card. :)

I was thinking vertical as well, actually. Sometimes that's a bit out of the norm for some people, but I happen to like vertical. I'll try that! You guys are awesome!

I really like the vertical, looks great! But be sure to put an apostrophe after years. Either "20 years' experience" or "20 years of experience."

I like this last one best of all!

Quick suggestion - the word "ads" looks awfully small and lonely. You could consider changing it to "advertisements." Unless, of course, you want to draw attention to that item, in which case you should leave it as-is.

Very nice! :)

Much better!

You could also do a wavey die cut up the side of the card. That would definately make it stand out!!! :D

I don't believe you need your logo on boths sides. Overkill!!!!

Your logo lends itself to a portrait card don't you think? Have you tried a portrait orientation business card?

I actually dont mind logos on both sides - it means that it is recognised whichever way it gets put into business card holders/dumped in a pile/written on.

And using that wavy screen you have, can you play with your list of services, so it isn't just centre aligned down the card?

i like the vertical one, but the font you used for the copy is really, REALLY tight. might wanna adjust that or even use a font that isn't so tight. i can barely read it on my screen and that is no bueno since its just about at scale.

Cool! Don't know why I wasn't thinking of utilizing the wave - guess I was in kind of a hurry since I really need to get these printed like NOW.

D-Frag - I was seeing that as well - I put more letter spacing in there and some horizontal scaling. Thanks!

I don't think you need to tell people that you create logos, brochures, etc. Its more implied then not and plus that information is really cluttering the design.

I have a list of services on my card too because I've also run into lots o' people who really don't know what "design" or even "graphics" entails. Plus that last version looks so cool! :)

I don't know where Vectorized lives, but I'm in a rural area, so maybe it's a geographical thing as to whether people get it/don't get it.

Serena - very true! I'm always getting questions about giving people examples of what I do. When I start listing just a few things, they stop and say, "Oh, you can do that too?" I'm not even in a rural area - I'm in Albuquerque, but sadly, there are many many people that just don't have a clue. Many times, they think web graphics, which, alas, I cannot do YET. I'm learning, though! But anyway, that's why I decided to list things on the back.

I should mention that I really like your logo. I like the vertical version of the bc best, I just think it suits your logo better. I also have my logo on both sides of my card due to a suggestion by someone here when I was creating the cards and I thought it looked much better that way. I also list some of the services that would be considered part of GD because like you said most people don't have a clue even in the NJ area where I am.

No worries about the double sided logo either. I have my 'logo'/squiggle on both sides of my card as well!

listing your services is one thing that designers will hate, but clients will love :D

OK, when I look at it like that, I'll change my mind and agree with you. When I get a business card from someone else - say an handyman, I would like to see a list of what they do too. It saves time.

CkretAjint
09-19-2007, 12:51 AM
Buda, that is true, but...

You also kill that personal one-on-one time with the potential new client. Why not talk to them and figure out their needs. Plus if you get excited about their potential projects they are more drawn to you (ie you company). People like communication and get excited when you are excited.

(just arguing the other side of the coin)

budafist

I know you're just arguing the other side of the coin, but if I had 2 business cards in my possession for 2 companies that I thought did the same thing, I'd call the one I KNEW did what I required rather than call the other that might do what I need.

However, I don't list my services because I'm more a word of mouth kinda business. If I were a yellow pages business, I would list my services. Also, my business card says "Illustration and design" so that is kind of a list, but not an extensive one.

CkretAjint
09-19-2007, 01:00 AM
Indeed. But I would hope that *I* would give the card to you in person and talk to you a bit, rather then have SOMEONE some where hand you a beat up and tattered business card. I mean common, when was the last time you got a business card from a third party that wasn't used and abused? :p

Definately agree with you on the word of mouth part.... ;)

Center alignment looks a little amateur so I would have to pick the top right. (Logo at the top left, text in the bottom right)

Maybe I can have TWO sets of cards - one to personally hand to a prospective client, giving me the opportunity to explain more of what I do, and the other set to put out on counters, mail outs, etc., that list some of the things I can provide. Hmmmmmm. These days, 4/4 UV coated cards are CHEAP, so what the heck? I'm also thinking of putting a couple of small unobtrusive logos on there - probably dropping the listing back considerably, one being a Freelancers' Union logo (which I belong to), since there are several corporations in this area that prefer to deal with other union businesses, and the US Army Veteran logo, which I am. Some business owners are ex military, or at least have a lot of respect for the military, and that may also tend to lean people my way.

Now, do you think a brochure would be a good thing to have? Or just kind of carry around my portfolio? I have a flyer that I'm sending out that has a few examples of my best work, as well as some descriptives of what I can provide, how long I've been in the graphics field, etc. What do you think?
