Hi :)

New client of ours: http://andersonconstruction.co.uk

We are redoing everything for them, that 'orrible website is going too ;)

Anyway, onto the identity, the logo needs to be based on the name, because the company isn't specific to one trade. I need to come up with 2 logos, one for Anderson Construction and one for Anderson Buchan. (You can see the 2 originals in the site linked above, I would post them, but they have split them into 3 graphics for some reason)

I know some will hate number 2. Web 2.0, but I just want it in there as an option. I like number 3, 'outside the box' feel to it.

All comments and critique welcome.

I like number 1 the best. But I can see the name (small letters) getting lost in the final print run, especially when reduced in size.

DO NOT show the client the Web 2.0 logos. They will pick them cause clients like gradients. EVERYTHING should have a gradient on it.... Trust me, just omit them all together and well pretend you never posted them ;)

There is something I like about number 3. Good play on negative space but it needs a little more. Maybe add the c in there creatively and have an ABC logo for both companies?

Am I the only one who think 3 doesn't portray the company well?? I still can't see it...

I am debating weather to or not, the boss man wants to show them, just so they have a wide choice, we'll see though ;)

Yeah that's quite a good idea, but I think they want to keep the 'A' and separate 'AB'. Maybe with some colour and company name in there, it will take shape a bit more, I may refine it though :)

I'll admit you have to use your imagination a bit :) but I thought it was clear enough, I'll wait and see how many people have trouble with it.

Thanks for the comments so far folks

I get the idea behind number three, but don't think that the A and B fit together as a pair. I also think it isn't immediate enough for going on vans etc.

For the sake of our industry lose the gradient, you're just setting yourself up for problems in rolling out the brand across its various elements.

I prefer number one, but can't help feel it's missing a trick.

Just for arguments sake...... does it work just as spot colours? (No gradients no transparency)

I still see it as no more than an effect, jumping on a bandwagon, logos need to have conceptual reasons for every element in them, not just because it looks like web 2.0 which just happens to be the current flavour.

I know what you are saying, but how many conceptual ways are there to represent the letter A in genereal terms?

btw I'm not trying to come off as obnoxious and defensive, so I apologise if I sound that way, I appreciate your help.

I think you are doing more than just representing the letter A, you are representing the company behind the letter, so you are representing what that company does and what it stands for. I would also add that there are a limitless number of ways of conceptually representing an A.

You don't sound obnoxious, you sound like a jolly nice chap, you are from Glasgow after all!

Conceptuality aside, If you add the B to #2 in pure black like the first version you have a perfectly acceptable logo. The web 2 stuff could then be considered just further development of the logo for a specific purpose.

;) well I wouldn't go as far to say being Glaswegian makes you a nice person! :p

Here's some inital after sketch concepts:

I still want to come up with a couple more solid designs

My favorite hands down is the first one in the second row. Which is basically the web 2.0 one sans all web 2.0 effects correct? I did like the 3rd row in the first set you posted but I couldn't quite see the A in the concept.

I hope this helps. But i do really like the AB in the second row -- and BONUS it kind of resembles an architect's T ruler no?

The AB in the second row is probably the strongest concept, from the base level. I will show three finals and seeing we're doing the web stuff and all the stationary and van wraps etc, I'll only use the 2.0 stuff where appropriate :)

Thanks for all the feedback
