don't know if it was the 15 minute long convo I had to have with a salesperson this morning, cuz she thought red text on a white background would pop more then a yellow text on blk background.....WTF? Why are people even questioning my godamn advice...hello, I hold the degree, ive been doing this for a long time now, why they still think im clueless is a new one on me. I had to pull out a old reference sheet just to show her I was right....ugh.
i almost walked out today....its getting worse, the little nickel and dime crap im getting is pancakeing annoying, and the other thing that's pissing me off is their constant need to use me and my skills for free. HELLO IM NOT EMPLOYED BY YOU!!! I have to bill everything in 15 minute incrimants, so im constantly battling myself on what to charge, oh and the 'owner' just decided all work I do for her, is half off of half off, so now im working basically a $10 an hour job.........god im absolutely pancakeing fed up, and the job market here is filled with positions, all of which I have applied for and never heard anything back from.....
Magnus, im with ya bud, im about ready to close the doors and find a new career, this one is pancakeing bullcrap anyways.....

ouch. That sounds rough, DF. It's definitely an unappreciated profession.
Hang in there!

I know exactly how you feel D-Frag. I have to keep track of every 15 minutes of every freaking day I'm here too. It's worse than being at school - at least there I only had to worry about whole hours. And I get the whole 'but I'm the client and I must be right, even though you've been professionally trained in what you do, my opinion far outways yours'. Aaaaaarrrrrggggggggghhhhhh.
As Morea says - hang in there, be patient with the job applications and keep trying.

i don't understand why they think they should advise u...i've been there and am in that position all the time! You wouldn't question the surgeon who is doing your triple bypass...well I'm the surgeon of this B*tch, and what makes you more qualified to judge this. Go ahead, name your qualifications, oh...that's right YOU DON'T HAVE ANY! I've taken type, advanced type, image production, advanced image production, book production, drawing 1 through advanced drawing, color theory, 6 semesters of art history, information design, painting, lithography, 2 semesters of photography and more. Owning a company that does laser surgery and botox, does NOT make you more qualified to judge...!!!
Wow...that felt good.

Sometimes, you just have to let them have it the way they want it, no matter how crappy the results. Some customers just don't like something until you actually effort to make it bad. I've even taken their stupid ideas before, and gone to the extreme to illustrate how mind-numbingly stupid their approach was, only to have them say 'Great! I love it!'.

Remember one key design tip:
You can never go wrong by always using red Comic Sans with a grey drop shadow as your headliner font.

So yeah, after my crapty day yesterday, things got a whole helluva lot better today....check this out.
So I got into work, and I have a message from a firm I did some freelance work for in downtown phx (this place is pimp too, pretty much my idea of what a firm should be) lush furniture, immaculate interior design, stacks and stacks of books and reference materials, they have their own place to do comps, and matting, OSX and 20+ inch monitors at every station....just amazing, its a dream job.....rated in the top 5 design firms in AZ.
Anyways, so they ask me if I could come in today and help them out, me being the go getter I am, and not having any work at my job, I left around noon and headed over there. Well needless to say, I hit the ground running, busted out 7 logos for a subway menu, then another logo for a charity organization, and then comped a couple things and matted a couple things. Just got out of there around 7pm. So heres the deal. I talked to the owner, told her my situation (her and the owner I am partnered with are very close friends) So I told her things were going really slow, and that I had been emailing my resumes out for any work, pt or ft. Well im pretty sure after all the stuff I did for them (and I impressed them thoroughly, they had never seen anyone come into their office and just hit the ground running) that they will be using me for a PT gig their, and who knows, it could turn into full time. So im supposed to go back tomorrow, they wanted me to work all day, but I told them I had to go to my office for the early part of the morning to finish what projects I have. Anyways, im super excited, im charging her $20 an hour right now (freelance rate) so I made a pretty penny today, which I soooooooooo desperatly needed.
Anyways, just thought I would share my excitement, im fricken bushed, been a long day for me, so im gonna go relax now!

Great news D-Frag! I'm happy things are looking better for you.
Those other people are just abusing you really. You need to get a copy of 'The Business Side of Creativity' It's really something any freelancer should read. Trust me D-Frag it will be a light at the end of your dark tunnel.
All my best wishes go out to you. =)
