I am employed at a nightclub called 'Fannys' and also work from home doing posters and flyers for the club, below is a poster I have just done for them and wanted some feedback...

Ladies Night Club Poster (http://www.jackcass.com/web/ladiesnight.pdf)

Background Info
Fannys is a smallish club based in Newcastle, Aus. Target Market is 18 to 25 yr old girls for this poster as there has been a lack of girls on friday nights.
It is an inhouse poster and is only displayed inside the club near the entrance and on the website.

Critique
ps. fannys in australian terms can mean a name or the crotch area of a woman, in america it means arse :)
The good and bad points,
what you would change?
what kind of night do you think it would be?
would you come to this event based on the poster? (pretending that you go to clubs)
any questions will be happily answered
Note
please note the istockphoto will be removed once the client approves the design. (which should be within 2 days)

Thanks! (2nd post)

I am not your target audience because I am a 31 year old male, Married so I can be an eligible bachelor. I would come to look but nothing more. But is it ladies only?

I think the ad works on that level of what you expect to see at a club. From my experience with women- free chocolate could draw a big crowd. I like the photo you picked- not raunchy and it looks like a classy place even if it named after a women's crotch.

Very catchy and futuristic with the font and chrome look. maybe get rid of the chocolate peels. They are kind of iffy from far away and don't match what's going on. Also, I think it's just "fridays" and not "friday's" at fanny's. That's a funny name :P

The bottom type is getting lost.

You might want to do something about buying the image of that lady, instead of just taking it off IStockPhotos.com.

Because having the watermark of Istockphotos, still on the photo, just might get you into trouble (even if you are in Aus.)

In my opinion, I think that your poster has a lot of different elements (images), making it to noisy/buisy. Granted they fit with what the business does, I just don't think you need that many.

i think she meant she will by the pic upon customers approval. I hope that is what she meant.

Oops, guess I missed that part. However I still stand by the rest of my comment.

I'm not a fan of clicking on PDFs, and I am sure that I'm not alone in that.

Would you mind saving the image as a gif or jpg and posting the image instead of the link? Here's how, if you're not sure:

From a punctuation point of view it should read: Ladies' Night

Exactly. Although I am INSANELY bored at work and clicked it...

Over all I like it, but it looks more like a poster for a young person strip club.

I'm in your target audience - I'm 23 so at the older end of the range. Fanny definately means vagina here so I would never ever spend my Friday nights with my girlfriends at a bar that called vagina.

From a designer and from a women's point of view, the poster looks tacky with it's sparkly bits and pink. The roses, strawberries, lips, lipstick etc is a bit overkill and suggests romance or sex...or adult services.

I imagine that the bar is shady, sticky and full of horny women on hens nights spewing up around the back.

THanks guys for all the feedback :) I will post in jpg format next time, it was only my 2nd post.

Comments
- Friday's at Fannys can be read both ways I've told the client. Friday's is at Fannys or Fridays at Fannys but the client is still deciding what to use, personally i think without the apostrophe.

- it is not a strip club, just a normal dance club, rnb section and electro section. i have no idea why they called it fannys. I hope it doesnt look like a strip club but it is known to be a meat market.

- I will try putting different chocolate (probably chocolate blocks) instead of the choc scrapings.

- About having to many images, the club uses LOTS of images to appeal to the target market, much alike magazines cleo and cosmo.

- Crimson: "i like the photo you picked- not raunchy and it looks like a classy place" - Thanks, because picking that picture took AGES with lots of feedback from the client regarding different pictures

Questions:
tz: When you say the text is being lost, what do you mean exactly? Could you elaborate. Thanks

Well… the types value at the bottom is similar to the ground it is on. Therefore, it is getting lost or disappearing somewhat. The type should contrast the ground instead. A lighter value would be best to contrast the dark ground.

Cosmo doesn't look anything like what you are doing here. Cosmo do raunchy by their text. Their graphic elements look fresh, young and inviting. Not saucy, tacky and porno.

I realise this place is a meat market, but maybe it's time to change that look so your client gets more people that are out to have a good time on Friday nights rather than to have a shag in the toilets.

Haha yeah I wasnt the person who named it Fannys for whatever reason ti was I have no idea, but I spose it gots peoples attention - but Fanny is a persons name here as well and is quite a popular name in Scandinavia too.

You have pretty much got the jist of the club, it is bit of a tacky place but markets it self as a classy place. it is pretty dark inside and is known as a meat market, it is always quite full so spose it is sticky, but vomiting usually would be in the toilet (gross).

shag in the toilets,lol

There's not one drop shadow, lens flare or gradient on the cosmo cover. In addition, that cover uses one image then the type arrangement supports the rest of the visually interest.

I meant inside the mags, (plus one must rememeber we are talking about magazine covers and poster design - very different things) how they use lots of images. but thanks, i like this crituque, so much better than asking people i know... they are like 'yes its good, id just change that sparkle - make it bigger'.

Love it :) thanks

Detail;

I'd also repeat the female sight for the dot in the "i" for "night".

If I know the person sending me the PDF and am expecting it, I don't mind... but I avoid opening any files from people I don't know. It's VERY easy (and free) to host images on a site like tinypic.com or numerous others out there, and then the images can be included inline in the thread instead of making people navigate away from the thread.

this is an old article, but still.

I absolutely hate clicking on a link, not realizing it's a PDF, come to find out that it is. For one thing, at least in Safari, it takes forever to come up in the browser window.

I actually can't even open pdf links in Firefox on my home computer. I'm too lazy to download it and scan it for viruses and then open it. Therefor, I haven't seen it. Sorry.
