Ok, so we all know that Apple and Starbucks have great branding and marketing happening for them. But who else do you think has a brand that is succeeding well in today's market?

Who makes your top 10?

when I think of car insurance, I think of Geiko - even though I don't actually use them :} I prefer the little gecko over the cavemen though.

Aflac is also a household name, but I don't care for their ads.

Bacardi. They made it BIG with women with their Bacardi & Diet. And let's face it, how many bars had Mojitos on their menu 5 years ago? Bacardi practically invented them, well at least made them what they are.

wow that's nuts! mine is around $40 to fill but its only a 4 cylinder =] i don't know if 1800mattres is nation wide but their song gets stuck in my head a lot. budweiser usually does a good job branding too. i love that new bud light commercial they have where they are in the opera and the bottles break in the guys jacket. haha so funny.

Yeah, I was fond of last xmas Target advertising. I think it was Tord Boontje that did a load of it and it looked very slick and sexy.

Comcast has got my vote for the Comcastic stuff done lately. I loved "Save Moolah" and the more recent ones that mimic the style of the original Hitch hikers guide to the galaxy.

Years and years ago (when I was very young) I used to cut out and save Michelob and Silk cut adverts from magazines because they were so great. I think my parents were a little worried that thier preteen was clipping cigarette and beer adverts! I will try to dig up something to show you what I mean, but it was over 10 years ago and the original clippings are 5000 miles away in my parents house.

Emerald Nuts...because when I think of Robert Goulet (surprisingly often), I think of Emerald Nuts.

I'd also like to add that no matter how hard Verizon tries to brand itself as being friendly, reliable, and high-tech, I will always remember that they are sneaky, deceptive crooks out to squeeze as much money out of you as they possibly can, with no regard for maintaining any form of good-will with the customer.

Well up here in Canada we have a coffee store called Tim Hortons. And well no matter what time of day it is, you will have a lineup literally going around the building. They make good coffee, but is it that much better than other coffees? Not really it's all about the brand.

I've been twice today, I'm brainwashed.

Also I'd have to say Coke as well. Even though I prefer Pepsi, I always order Coke at restaurants, and occasionally pick it up at the store out of habit.

And lets not forget Heinz Ketchup. Truly there is no other kindz. I will not buy any other brand. Is there another? Besides the store brand? That's a powerfull brand, when potential competition says "What we're going to make a ketchup that beats Heinz? Whaddya stupid, get the %$^&* out my office you make me sick!"

:D lmaoooo

Ketchup v. Catsup was a landmark United States Supreme Court case involving tomato based condiments, which were invented in Saxony. The case stemmed from an argument among American consumers on the correct spelling of the word pronounced "Catch-up". The issue was further confused by major politician's wife Theresa Heinz, who claimed "It doesn't matter how you spell it, just vote Kerry, or I'm cutting you all off from it!”

Those are quite memorable. I like them as well. And of course, not to be unmentioned, are the iPod line (although I'm getting a bit sick of them...but they are memorable). A classic favorite is Volvo..."Crash Dummies" are virtually synonymous with them, even became a cartoon for a time.

I love tracking threads, especially when their course takes them into "bizarre country."

Damn you!!! That's one of the few adverts that causes me to shout at the tv. It's just frickin menthol lipsalve! You might as well rub Vicks or Bengay on your head, at least that way your eyes would go all red and start watering and someone might give you the day off work. It's not pain relief! It's a smelly lipstick! ARRGHHHH!!!

not a brand per-se, but treated like one :

The New York Yankees.
They were smart to never really toy with the basics of their image/logo/uniform.

The logo itself has had an interesting quality of never really looking "dated".
Even now it looks contemporary.

I like vodka, just not absolut vodka. I certainly wouldn't buy it and I used to drink it when it was free, but now I've decided that even drinking free Absolut goes against my grain. It just has a horrible flavour and aftertaste. Vodka should be smooth.

One could say the same for the Pittsburgh Steelers. My husband's a huge fan, apparently their uniform and logo and identity haven't change very much over the years, according to him.

Speaking of the NY Yankees -

Here in the NY area they've had one of those AT&T/Cingular commercials that features Roger Clemons on the phone with his wife asking her about whether or not it would be okay with her if he returned to playing baseball. The wife protests, but Roger doesn't hear because of a dropped connection. Makes me laugh whenever I see it (and I"m not even a Yankee fan!).

"What we're going to make a ketchup that beats Heinz? Whaddya stupid, get the %$^&* out my office you make me sick!"

You are absolutely right about this. My husband and I own a sauce brand, and ketchup is a topic that comes up every so often as a product to make, until inevitably, someone says pretty much the exact line above. ;)

As for great branding, I think that Apple has done a really good job with marketing and branding. I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet. But how many people stood on line for an iPhone simply because it was an iPhone, without even finding out if it was a decent piece of equipment first?

Interesting, I was thinking of mentioning a football team, but it would have been the Cowboys (who I loathe), mainly in that they have perhaps the widest fan base in the NFL as far as I can tell.

Haha, there is something to love about uniforms from the 1930's.

The Cowboys have gone through several jersey and pants changes through the years, but their helmets has only changed once. They were originally white with a blue stripe and a blue star, then changed to their current design.
