Nightclub Poster Design (2nd poster) [Archive]

Hi,

I now have a new poster as below, and i am taking crique from the earlier thread (http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30420) about keeping things a bit more simple in terms of images that you look at and the hierachy.

This poster will be updated once a month with a new picture of a lady dj and the yellow text of the DJ will be changed also.

What do you think of the new design?

Note :The girl photo is a low res pic and will be updated with a high res one at a later date. The nightclub requested that photo to be put on it.

Target Market: 18 to 25 male and female

Too many typefaces and angles going on I think. I know the pic is low res, but I think it could do with some 'skank reduction' as well ;)

I'm not crazy about the halo around her...you have a lot of effects already. Also, can you change the font of "The Last Saturday of Every Month" so that it stands out a little more? And maybe angle it along the same angle as Disco Chix...as stated before you have a lot of angles going on. And since you don't want everything angled the same way, perhaps straighten the "This month Stella MC" and move it down and eliminate the arrow....(you'll probably have to shrink the text a little)...

just an idea...I think it just needs a little more simplicity and a little less of every element styled...if that makes sense....?

I like the background elements, I think they work well.

Also forgot to add that tHis is an inhouse poster, ie. it is posted inside the club and on the website.

I need to have the arrow there because it shows it is here. We have a lot of girls in all our promotions so people will think its just another girl.

i will try what you said graphicsmama and post back here, but for now bed time :) 2am woo

With that said, less effects more design. The poster looks like your brief was to cram as many effects as possible and integrate a horrendous image into the mix. Honestly, I don't think this can be saved. I'd start over.

well not everyone is drunk that comes in, plus they are hung right as you walk in so pretty much everyone sees it. plus it is hung on the walls outside of the club so people see it when they are lining up to get in. they also hand out the flyers at the door sometimes in a5 format.

thanks for that i will change it, and probably the typeface too.

I think it looks good. Too many type faces... bah hum bug. It's a grungy dirty night club poster not a pretentious high class company ad and it's done pretty nicely. The only thing I think is missing is comic sans ;)

First of all if you are going to post an image like that, please label thread NSFW (not safe for work). Funny, disgusting but NSFW.

On the critique side....lose those fonts. (Disco and Stella fonts), they are just U-G-L-Y and they ain't got no aliby. They ugly.

The rest of the design seems fitting for the audience though.

I still really hate the pic. If a client told me they had an image for me to use, that I hated, then I would show something else to them. Usually they'l agree that it is better (if it is) and if not, **** it, at least you tried.

well there are many other pics to choose from of the girl, however i also liked this picture as a guy who is 19 (it certainly gets your attention) and who we are marketing towards (18 to 25guys and girls).

Blue Halo: Sorry about the blue looking halo, the girl picture was just a quick cut out job, from a blue background so thats why it is there. i will take more next time, for when i present a concept to a client.

I'm 23 too. I guess I'm not the kind of person that would go to these things. I like going out to see bands that I can dance too, I like to keep my breasts inside my clothes and I won't squat to take a photo.

If you replaced the photo with an illustration of that girl, it could work.

This looks a million times better. The blue much more pleasing to the eye than the previous green header.

Does this girl ever MC with a different expression? It's a shame she puts on such a lurid mask on because I imagine that she might be quite pretty if she opened her eyes and shut her mouth.

The background can still be simplified a bit more. Do you really need the grunge textured border? It doesn't add anything important or even nice to the piece and it's been done to death.

she is one crazy girl this girl, and she is a million times more pretty in many other photos however she doesnt have any full res photos of them :(

wow the first poster looked like a really cheap porno cover now it looks like a strip club poster =] haha no i all seriousness it looks 100x better than it did before. i think you kind of lose the model because of the white you have going on in the background. maybe change that background so it's not just white (like a light color overlay) so it won't just blend in with the photo or you could put a jaggy black edge to the photo to separate it from the white background. nice progression though

That is the first thing I thought when I saw the first design but I didn't want to be accused of knowing what cheap porno looks like! :p
