I was bored at work and my buddy wanted a few logos for his Vinyl Company so I made a few. I’m still learning PS, so far it’s all self taught, although I do have some classes coming up. Criticize :)

thread moved to the Showcase.

These are not logos. Web banners, maybe.

Logos need to be designed in vector software so that they are scalable to different sizes. Read more about vector vs. raster graphics here (http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=41)

I'd also recommend that you have a look over this (http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12915) thread.

What type of work should I post?

This forum is mostly made up of professional graphic designers and printers. Most of the work we expect see in the showcase is 'design' rather than art - meaning that it was made for a specific purpose other than just to look nice (not that there's anything wrong with that ).

Posts featuring forum signatures, wallpaper, fan art, and other non-commercial designs might not receive a lot of feedback.

Also, many members view "grunge" work as overdone, so this type of work may not get the attention you are hoping for.

They were for his e-bay store, so ya web banners, wrong terminology :(

Not all vinyl is cut, it can also be printed on ;)Really? Thanks for enlightening my world. Yes you are correct not all vinyl is cut, but you still have to have an edge where the machine cuts the edge. Blah blah. You seem to know more about this than I apparently do. What I'm really saying is you shouldn't create a logo in Photoshop as it isn't vectorized.

No problem, not sure where I came across as "knowing more than you do", maybe the "not all vinyl is cut" implied that. Thanks for whatever constructive criticism you gave. Didn’t mean to get panties in a bunch, everything will be ok.

Instead being "Bored in PS" it should be "Bored in Illustrator" or any other legitimate vectorized program.

they'd work fine for web images, but at the risk of being repetitive, logo design really should be done as vector work so that the logo can be used across different media.

There are some helpful tips on designing logos in this thread, if you are interested: http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24307

MiF - generally, novice Photoshop users rely heavily on filters and effects built into the program for 'jazzy' effects. More experienced users tend to try to avoid them, it's sort of a cliche in our industry. The secret to using filters is to try to make it look like you DIDN'T use them. ;)

Everybody starts somewhere, and Photoshop is a huge program to learn. I'd recommend however that you devote more time towards learning photo retouching techniques (color correction, masking, etc), as those skills will be more helpful to you in the long run.

If you google "photoshop retouching tutorials" you'll find loads of information to get you started. Hope that helps some!

But why talk Photoshop when someone just mentioned the 'B' word?
