How many times do you send out a promo or marketing material to the same client until you pull the plug on them?

not sure what you mean. Do you mean a self promo piece to a potential client you want? Or are you referring to a current client your doing promotional and marketing work for, that keeps running the same campaign? Sorry if I misunderstood! :P

Well, it is mailer for a potential client that I want to attract.

well i don't know thats a tough one. I know that personally when photographers send me promo postcards numerious times when i already know I have no interest in using them, I throw them out. Especially if they are redundant..HOWEVER if they were different, unique really spoke to me, I would maybe put on the cork board or something...something inspirational....something that they will want to keep...then i might be up to calling them.

You should do some research on this potential client, try and figure out what look/feel they like, what would appeal to them? Working with something less corporate or business, and something more fun that relates to their business might work.

I don't kwnow what your promo looks like, but perhaps the client isn't into your style? Maybe your not targeting them right w/ the way the design is dome. Maybe sending the same promo is boring to them. What if you created say a series of promo mailers...similar style, but different colors or themes or something - w/ one common element - aside from you and your business. And sent them one every week or two...then after a few weeks, Call them up and try to talk to them on the phone to get yourself in the door.

Aside from that one idea - you could also send them a nice letter, telling them you would very much like to do some creative work with them, and that you would like to meet to show your work samples. Always follow up w/ a phone call though...but don't pester. :>

Can you post the promo design? Maybe we can all help you further. :) Could be that this client doesn't need creative design work, or is already working with someone....

Attracting clients isn't easy, we all know that...and its even harder when you want that specific client...

I'm sure others will have more to add in here.

Well, I did send a letter of introduction and later followed by a postcard, I am going to call them and see how it goes. I guess after calling them I would know to send them any more promotional material or not.

:)

yes exactly, if after you talk to them, and they say leave me alone i'm not interested, back away, slowly! :) Then try again in 6months if your still hard up on wanting this client....in the meantime, seek out similar clients and see if they'll bite!

usually when you send out promos - if you send in bulk, you should at least get a 2%-3% response, and of those, a big job or two pays for the promo work done, so in that respect it pays off...

Promoting yourself is no easy task! But just keep at....after a few months of your potential client not biting, all you can do is move on to the next one...which is why of course its good to target many at a time.

I've started picking and choosing my targets. I decided a blanket mailer costs me as much time and energy, and more dollars, than if I just picked a few good potentials and figured out what made them tick.

i haven't done much self promo material but... i only have existing customers on my mailing list plus a few friends & family.

I just sent out a Christmas card (explaing that we design & print Christmas cards) & i'll be starting a thread about it after i get a little more feed back from it.
