So i agreed to do a logo for a buddy of mine. This is for a "business" he runs during the last half of the year. They design, hang, and take down christmas light displays for homes and businesses.
He wants more in this logo. And i guess it needs some more. Just kinda stuck..and i kinda like it.
Any suggestions?

IMO, it needs less - its not a logo its a banner - not meaning to be harsh

^ exactly. A logo doesn't have to include everything the company does. Ideally, you want something simple and memorable that people will recognize at a glance, not something that they have to think too much about or look at for too long.
In addition, the logo needs to function at very small sizes - small enough to be printed on a pen. I think that this script font will be very hard to read at small sizes.
It might make a nice sign or flyer, but I think you've got too much going on here for an effective logo.

humm...maybe the logo is just the text and bulb...he originially wanted me to make a sign...so i think i approached this with that mentality. does it look like the string of lights needs to be "tied" or plugged in or something?

I did find one article that might explain vectors and logo design, Morea where are you??? Help me out here :D
read this article/thread http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=349461

My specialty is posting a ridiculous number of times on internet forums, and being able to retrieve almost any thread when asked. From another thread
Morea .. where are you? Come help! ;)

drop the gray drop shadow behind the letters. Its not helping AT ALL.
make the star the same color as the stroke on the star (solid color).
adjust your kerning.
try a brighter color for the main text. red? then you have red text with green christmas lights (holiday colors)
perhaps you can have 'spectacle' above 'of the lights' on top of the string of lights? This would help with the readability of it, plus make the logo smaller and more square. allowing it to be used in A lot more places. the size of it just feels off.
Have you tried other ideas? Perhaps having the words form a house shape with lights on it? Or not using cleche lights on it at all? I mean I see little lights in the logo. What if I like huge fat lights? or icicle lights? Would you not cater to my needs?
:)

here's my best advice about logo design:

^ I would recommend reading over that before you go any farther.
I don't like the star. Also, drop shadows have no place in a logo except in its online form... as I said earlier, logos have to be vector art; effects can be added later.
Incidentally, this is what your logo would look like if it were sized down to fit on a pen:

In logo design, less is more.
Having the lights being held up by the counter space instead of just the descenders might help the composition. Still… the idea is top of mind but, the lights would look less disjointed compositionally.
