100% vector?
I like the top one.
The second makes me ill.

Is the first one 100% vector and if so how long did it take you to complete?

the top COULD be vector, but agreed it doesn't appear that way.

I think I might have just had one of those Pokémon bright color induced seizures.

The top one is not all vector- my bad.
Its a picture of the empire state building that I colored. Other things are all vectors.
Im pretty new at this (started february) so what could be improved.
Ps. To danger mouse: neither have any point whatsoever, well atleast not to me afriend of mine asked for an empire state building background and I just like gogol.

HDS - first rule of thumb (since your new) dont steal or use images from "google" there are plenty of free stock sites out there for you to "brighten" up, try www.sxc.hu for some free high res stuff. As for improvement? Well, first you need to know what you are designing for what purpose. Secondly some color theory wouldn't hurt. Also, learning type treatments and WHY they are important would also help.

I can't read what the type said in the second one. Applied color theory wouldn't hurt.

^^ I agree with D-Frag 100%.
Even as you experiment with design and aspects of design when learning, try to design toward a goal. Even background images must reflect some message.
Both of the images are really over the top for colors and design. However, when other things are put over the background to create a message, then it may not be so overwhelming.
I always ask myself, "If I were to see this what is the first thing it says to me, or what is the first thing I see?"
Welcome to the Forum. There's tons of really great discussions.

Well there doesn't always HAVE to be a point to things. Sometimes they are just exercises using the software, and that is totally fine. I've done plenty of that in my time. I'll apologize for the whoopie doo comment. (punches self in the face)...I think when things are posted in the showcase, my immediate thoughts are to critique the design.
But as Dfrag and Drazan touched on, definitely ideal to keep even the simpliest projects with a goal in mind.

Of course really if you want to get into it, it's basically a science unto itself... :)

magenta on cyan (also cyan+yellow) is not a good combination. Notice the edges of the left arrow.
