I want to know if it is possible to save an image created in the 16 bit channel mode as a 16 bit bitmap file while still in the 16 bit channel mode

VERSES

Creating the image in 16 bit channel mode then having to convert to the 8 bit channel mode and then saving the image as a 16 bit bitmap.

It is very important to keep the image as high a quality as possible.

Will the conversion to the 8 bit channel after creating the image ruin the quality?
Any suggestions on a different format to possibly save the image as to keep the quality?

Thank you for your time

Well this is for an image quality test on a product in the testing phase at work.

Keep it in 16 bit for as long as you can. Once you go to 8 bit, you've lost information. Changing to 16 bit afterwards won't help.

You can save tiffs in 16 bit mode. Just make sure that wherever it's being printed they can work with that type of file.
