Hi all,

I lost everything on my hard drive a couple days ago and there's a slim chance that I'll find my Adobe CS CDs anytime soon so while I'm deciding if I want to look for them or upgrade to CS 3 can anyone point me to some freeware for the Mac OS X? I'd like to take a couple of weeks to make up my mind and can't hold up production for that long.

I forget the name but I remember someone on these forums having a signature chock full of choices. I'm sure hoping some of them are for Mac. :)

BTW - Most important is a PS clone.

Thanks in advance!

Free photoshop CS3? ha, sure you must be joking... We just got CS3 at work and had to drop around $800 a station, and we have 30 stations ($24,000)! Wish we would have tohught at looking for the 'free' PS.

you can just download trial versions until you find them.

why can't you find your CD's? Are you at home or work? At the prices they go for its not a good idea to misplace them. Mine are beside my desk all the time. someone takes a copy and I turn into a mesh of Sherlock Holmes and Dog the bounty hunter. Too expensive to misplace.

As I stated I have Adobe CS and I'm thinking of upgrading to CS 3 so I'm aware of the price. I didn't ask for "Free PS". I asked for links to a "PS clone" (as well as any other clones). Although I've been using Adobe for years I've read many threads on this forum regarding freeware that does the basics without the "bells and whistles" and I'm hoping I can be temp bailed out of my problem.

Ahh yes. I forgot about the 30 day trial (if that's still what it is). Thanks DM!

Assuming Nessy is real then the same reason they can't find her. I recently moved and I've got this big lake of stuff and I know the CDs are in there somewhere it'd just take a huge team or a lot of man hours to precisely locate them.... : )

And since I've been thinking of upgrading since CS 2 I'm now weighing whether or not I want to make the jump now or actually find the old discs only to upgrade at some point anyway.

Wont you need your old version installed to "upgrade" anyway?

Wont you need your old version installed to "upgrade" anyway? No, just the serial numbers.

Ahhh... so aren't the serial numbers in the jewel case?

Just being difficult now!

lol funny

I was thinking the same thing Satchel. On that ...note to self....maybe a good idea to copy serial numbers down somewhere else in case I ever happen to lose my ENTIRE library of software.

sorry but for all the hassle you will go through downloading, installing then reinstalling etc....I'd be out looking for those CD's el pronto.

BTW - I'm still interested in any freeware. I know some people swear by them and while one doesn't want to hear about freeware once one's purchased Adobe's CS at this point (before putting down the $$ again) I'm more open to listen to alternatives.

And stop being difficult, Satchel! :D

The member with all the links to freeware alternatives hi his sig is SurfPark (http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/member.php?u=7759). I have no idea what platform(s) any of these work on, nor how well they work.

I was just searching for that Virgo, and this thread came up :)

I was going to recomment The Gimp ... and see they have a Mac OSX version, but I've never used it.

I was going to mention The GIMP, but Satchel beat me to it. Like him, I've never tried it. Luckily, I got a big discount on my software because I was a student. I know friends who use it all of the time though. It's open-source, and you can even get GIMPshop (which makes the software look/feel like Photoshop) if you don't want to adapt to another interface. I have never noticed any others, definitely no vector-based programs are about.

Better make sure that if you're going to be sending any of your work to printers that they can use the files you create with this open-source software.
