Hi there! I needed to get some opinions on these logos. They are for a hair designer (he refuses to be called a hair stylist) named Sayeed. This project was given to me by my boss. He is an international "designer" and apparently does not mind having different variations of his name as a logo. From the information I was given the design is supposed to be clean, authentic, real, and organic. I'm still trying to think about the organic part. The logo would be printed on beige or natural colored paper. So I have tried these different ones and would appreciate any input on them. Also, scissors are supposed to be included within the design. I hope this is enough information to give an opinion.

3 and 4 remind me too much of Jeff Fisher's Jeff Maul logo. Great minds huh? :) Saying that, it's risky 4 is actually my favourite. Is there anyway to use this as a starting point and move a few steps further on this?
It's so odd that you are able to do variants of the spelling. I guess you should ask the question - what name is going to go on his business card? Because that is the way of spelling you should go for.

I think number 7 would be my favourite to work on. It's a nice simple elegant start and yet it is clear what it is. That could be very sexy and modern on business cards and door decal with some more work.
I think #4 is a good starting point too. Not a fan of the font your using though.

I think that number 6 is the best ;)

I like #2 best. Nice and simple. Although overall the font looks a little stretched. But I like em.

Why is the name spelled differently in different versions?

7/8 are by far my favorite. Not a fan of the font, though.

I agree with the ladies, #7 is a good starting point - not a fan of the font either.
Something to chew on:
Think about the final use for this logo. Is it just for an identity system, will it go on the web, etc. Tall skinny logos like that occupy a weird space, especially with text running under it horizontally. If you'll be doing more work with this, it's something you should think about.

Thanks you guys for the input on the logos. The information that I gave is about as much information as I have. I understand that if it is used for different media I will have to take it under consideration when creating the logo but, so far I have just been told it's for a basic identity system. I still have no idea why so many different spellings were given to me. It would be much easier if I only had one to work with. Here are the different reworks:

I like 5c. The scissors definately need to be open rather than closed.

I like 5c, too. I also really like the second row of the #1's. But the Y isn't quite obvious enough....maybe a little wandering curl or something to complete the y would make it more obvious. I think they all look nice!

Yes 1 is nice structurally, but looks more like grass than hair. Hair grows downwards while grass grows upwards y'know?

Not when a hairdressers holding it up to cut it! I think it says hair, but would be more playful and help compete the y if it had a stray or two in it.

I'm glad that you got that Cornfed. I was actually referencing when a hairdresser holds the hair and cuts it. I will try #1 with a more "wandering curl" look. I also agree with you Budafist looking at #5c that the scissors should be open. Hopefully, I'll get to add a color or two.

Ahhh....I see now. Though I got my hair cut (for the first time in 2 years) 2 weeks ago and she held it down and out rather than up. I guess that's because my hair is long.

I like 5b, just to be different!
I think there is something really elegant about the shape of the scissors handle - it is less obvious, yet already mentioned, still instantly recognisable. I think as a brand system, that shape has potential for a lot of uses too - more so than the others (although I am interested to see how you go with more 'hairy' looking hair in the 1st options!)

Another vote for 5b here, it's a little more abstract and thought provoking than the all too familiar scissors

I agree, 5b is my fav.

Another vote for the 5b image - I really like that the graphic draws the viewer in to figure out what the image is, without making it all too literal.

if you are going for the "clean, authentic, real, and organic" look i would choose 7. i like 7 however change the font, possibly to the one in 6.
i also like number 6 as its quite strong.

5b for me. I think that works better than 5a and 5c is close behind 5b.
not digging the hair images.

I said I liked 7 on your original round, and although 5b on your second round is a modification of that one, I still think that the original number 7 has a more elegant shape, being more elongated. If you can find the right font to go with that then it will be really pleasing. :)

(he refuses to be called a hair stylist) named Sayeed.
Tell him that designers are supposed to be the pretencious ones, and that he can sit his hair STYLIST ass down.
Then draw him some scissors with hair growing out of them to satisfy his "organic + scissors" brief.
Done & done.
I think 5b is the most successful as well – the abstract qualities of it are alluring without seeming too commonplace.

I understand what you're saying but, I want to stay with a sans serif font. The most recent samples use avenir. If anyone else has any other suggestions as far as fonts I would be open to them. It's sort of difficult to find the perfect font to used when you have a certain image in your mind as to how you want things to look.

What about Am Sans (http://www.dafont.com/am-sans.font), Lane (http://www.dafont.com/lane.font), or Siple (http://www.dafont.com/siple.font)? Just a few clean sans serif's that I happen to be fond of at the moment.

Am Sans looks like the offspring of Gill Sans and Futura. I really like it. Sometimes Gill Sans is just a bit much while Futura just isn't enough.

another vote for 5b - clean "cut" (sorry couldnt help that - its that friday feeling!) and think it would look really well on the various branded items in the salon, price lists window signage etc. also like logos that will look good and be effective fromdistance which I think this one will. nice job
