I am using Photoshop CS3 on a MBP with a 16gb lexar SSD card - and want to use the SSD card as an extra scratchdisk for photoshop. Unfortunately PS does not recognize the SSD as a hard drive and thus, does not allow it to be used as a scratch disk. Any idea why this occurs? How can i change this (utility, preference, etc), or is this just something I'll have to wait + hope for in CS4?

Q: Why? Comparatively, an SSD would be many, many times slower than a HD partition.

Well Broacher, you do have to erase your drive to partition it.:p
An SSD would be handy to store stuff on while you do that, I suppose.
But I agree on the speed. Having the scratch space is nothing when compared to speed of accessing it. Even a second internal drive would probably be faster than any external device.

If you use PartitionMagic, you shouldn't have to format your drive.

Sorry.
If you partition your drive in any fashion without backing up...your loss.
(Note: PartitionMagic is made by Norton, has no reviews on VersionTracker and is for PC only...Let me know how well that works. I'm curious.)

PartitionMagic is a great program, if you know what you're doing. If not, I wouldn't mess with it as you could end up having to format the entire thing to recover. I'm not sure how you would go about making your card recognizable as a hard drive.

I've also read that flash memory chips are only good for around 70,000 read/write operations. They DO wear out. If you use one as a scratch disk, I could see the end coming a lot sooner than if you use it for it's original design intent of a low-cost picture/mp3 file storage system.
