I am currently working on a logo in Illustrator, but I have ran into a problem.

I have a selection of shapes, filled with colour, and with white outlines - layered on top of one another.
I am looking to delete the white outlines, so that I can place a colour on the background, and it shows through the lines I previously deleted. I assume that I will be needing to use the Pathfinders Toolbox, which I have used before - but only with typography.

I am using CS2.

Thanks in advance. If my explanation isn't good enough, I can post a picture.

pic please?

have you outlined the outlines and then deleted them? I am kind of lost...

Are the shapes just "stroked"?

If they're just shapes, you can select the stroke icon (Empty box icon with white center) and click the no fill button. It's a white box with a red slash through it.

Sorry, I'll explain a few more things. I want the white outline to be cut through the shapes, so that the (in this case, grey) background is showing through the gaps. This doesn't work by just selecting no outline. I created the overall 'flower' by overlapping each of the petal shapes. If that is of any help.
I will try removing the outline on the original and then C&P the image directly over - with no fill but a white outline - and try using the Pathfinders Toolbox to see if I get any result.

Thanks so far.

Outline stroke, perhaps? It would help if you could show a picture of what your result is supposed to be (obviously not your example, since you're trying to figure it out, but another example).

Can't you just change your white outlines to grey?

Yes, I could - that would work. Is there no other way of getting the same outcome though? I wanted to keep it as tidily constructed as possible, if you understand...
Maybe I was taking the wrong approach afterall. Thanks

Outline stroke, select all, make sure white objects are on top, then in pathfinder OPT-click on "Subtract from object".

What Ned said!

Won't work. Unless you have CS3 with the stroke to the outside of the shape.
When you outline the stroke in CS2 or lower, the shape that is stroked, if it has a fill, is still as large as halfway through the stroke.

There is a certain combination of Pathfinder events and compound path releases you need to do to get the fill to be inside the punched lines. Inlining your stroke isn't perfect.
Note: This is why there is always a setup charge for cut vinyl signage. LOL!
