Just another quick question. If I need to credit a photographer on an image used on a project, are their any strict guidelines I should be following?

I normally add it in the © section if there is one..

Depends on the contract you have with the source of the image.
Most state that the credit needs to be on the same planar surface (defined as page or surface) as the image used. ie if we are doing a photopanel the image credit needs to appear either within the image or on a tag on the wall directly next to the image. Sometimes the contract doesn't say where but that credit must be given. Then you could put it in a masthead, appendix, image credit page, front of the exhibit, in a drawer in the curators office...
Read the fine print or contact the photographer/source.
As far as size and color of credits, they can get mighty small and the color can be such that it doesn't draw attention away from the subject, as long as it's there and legible. Our standard credit size is 10 points but that would be too large for a book, article or cd cover...
