Hello, I am very new in desing....:)
I saved an illustrator artwork as pdf file, when I sent it by email and open it, the collors changed dramatically. What did I do wrong? How and where do I fix this?
Thanks.

Some emails can't read a CMYK image and sometimes will invert the look of the image...

How drastic are we talking here?

Thanks.
Can you tell me how do I sent an artwork without changing its collor via email to someone? Thanks again,

Monitor differences perhaps?

there's really no way you can send what YOU see to another person's computer unless it was calibrated the same as yours. Match prints are your best bet... or email ONLY to verify typos and layout but NOT color

Usually when creating a PDF it defaults to converting colors to RGB. Change the setting to don't allow color conversion.

hi
Thanks, but maybe I need to be more direct in my question.
What type of extension should I save my work and be able to send it via email so the receiver is able to see it just what i ve done.
thanks

send a .jpg (in rgb) or .pdf

here is the best way, to retain correct color when transfering to pdf...

Save the document as an .eps file from illustrator, make sure the document was created in CMYK to start with. The create a pdf using acrobat. The color information should translate correctly that way. Its better to go to post script format when transfering files from one application to another, especially to get accurate colors. After you create the .pdf, put it in a zip file or your compression software, then email it. I think this is the most secure way to do it.

Other potential issues:

The Reader your client is using is out of date. I had someone open up a PDF I generated in INDY CS2 once and they were using Reader 5 and my blend modes went HAYWIRE. I could not understand why they were giving me the revisions they were, then we figured it out. All was well.

Other possibilities: you generated your doc in RGB and exported it to a CMYK PDF - you will do this if you select "press" or "high quality print" presets in ILLY. Going from CMYK to RGB doesn't tend to affect colors much since the gamut is expanding.

Everyone else's possibilities are equally [if not more] likely than mine, but mine are following the KISS method :)

I had a similar problem when I upgraded to CS3. It actually turned out to be the display settings in Acrobat that got messed up. I don't remember exactly what I did to fix it off the top of my head and I'm too lazy to open acrobat and check right now, so I guess I'm not really helping (sorry), but try messing around with your display preferences in Acrobat.

^That'll help if you don't know what you're doing

Did the OP check the pdf before sending is my question.
For example, if Illy is retaining an odd color profile when going to pdf (and the default Illy profile sure is an odd one), the result is not pleasing. Any number of other things could go wrong that 'messing' with the settings could thoroughly mess you up more if you don't know what you are messing with.

That's funny that you think I don't know what I'm doing, seeing as I fixed the problem I was having with my computer with absolutely no negative reprecussions. So just because I'm not eager to show off everything I can do like some of you snobs, doesn't mean I don't know what I'm doing. The fact is, I didn't just go changing settings arbitrarily. My colors had become desynchronized between acrobat and the rest of CS3, and I changed to the CMYK display settings in Acrobat to match.

Try not being a jerk next time, and when I say I'm too lazy to explain something, it means I'm too lazy, not that I don't know.

uhh... I'm not sure that comment was directed at you.
Take a deep breath. :)

yeah it definately was. I don't know what Print Drivers' problem is with me. But every time I post something he/she basically calls me an idiot.

I swear, I'm not as hopelessly ignorant as this character makes me out to be. I mean, I have a good job and I think my employer would agree that I'm pretty good at it.

Seriously, relax. It's really easy to misread comments on a forum since they're not accompanied by tone of voice or body language. PD is a very very well-respected member of this forum who graciously lends his advice whenever he can, and he has lots of experience to back up that advice. I don't think he meant that he didn't think you knew what you were doing, just that it's hard to follow the advice you'd given if the person trying to follow the advice doesn't know exactly what you did. ;)

Blanket, sigh... He didn't say You didn't know what you were doing. He said if you mess with the preferences and you don't know what you are doing you can screw things up. I looked through all your posts because truthfully I never noticed you before now and I didn't see any place where he called or even hinted that you were an idiot. PD only gets to log on here during his breaks and lunch while at work and he generously spends that time in here because on color issues he is the man. Try not to read things into what he says that aren't there.

also blanket, you basically just rambled about how you KNEW what the problem was, but were to lazy to help the original poster, then you go on to throw a fit because one of our mods made a comment about that not helping. who is in the wrong here?

Don't worry I'm not stressing or anything. Just my general impressions from what I've read so far. I guess everyone thinks I'm yelling or really pissed off or something. But you miss alot when you can't see my body language or tone of voice.

I don't like sarcasm. I think it's the lowest possible form of humor. In fact, it's annoying and makes people come off as pompous. I guess I'm just responding to the sarcastic tone of his post.

Nobody is in the "wrong", I just didn't like the tone of his post. Apparently you all suck his !@#$ so I guess it doesn't really matter anyway.
