I need to put an image(2592 x 3888 with 240 dpi) on an A0 poster (841mm x 1189mm). im lookin for the best quality of it to be shown on an A0 poster.
my questions are:
what do i need to change with the photo? since the size of an A0 poster is 3 times bigger than the photo, do i change the dpi of the photo to 744dpi?
when i import the photo with 744dpi to Illustrator, it says "insufficient memory was available to complete the operation". how do i fix this?
what is the minimum dpi for an A0 poster?
i seriously need help guys:( .... any good reference websites?

Sounds like a flat image to begin with, so just resize it in photoshop and send it out that way.
Why do you need a flat raster image in illustrator? That's stupid and retarded wrapped up in a bit of moronic....

thanks for your reply.
but how should i resize it in photoshop? should i create an A0 size document and change the dpi of the photo to 744 and put it in the A0 document? if so, what should the dpi of the A0 document be? is 300dpi enough?

Contact your printer first and fore-most. The printer might request it at 200 dpi or 150 dpi depending upon what it's printer can handle... They might even ask for it at half scale at 600 dpi...
But 300 dpi should be more then enough for a 33.11" x 46.81" at 100%

You could likely get away with 200 DPI at final with an A0, but like Ckret said, contact the printer.
The problem is you have to upsample that image nearly 400% [if you need 300DPI] and that's generally no good for happy images. Reassigning the DPI value in Photoshop arbitrarily will (at best) give you a wacky stated DPI, but a (possibly) normal effective DPI once it is set at size in a mechanical. At worst, you could cause Photoshop to "invent" the balance of the pixels you are missing and, unfortunately, Photoshop is NOT good at doing that with any significant increases.
Also, using ILLY to setup your raster mechanical is definitely not the best way to do it, use a program like InDesign or Quark and it will make for happier people all the way through your SB.

Illustrator is often used to compose posters. The insufficient memory error is just that. You probably don't have enough ram available to Illy, your image is somehow corrupt, or your image has a lot of layers.
As for up-sizing, generally a bad idea.
In this case it sounds like you are downsizing if the first numbers are mm and not pixels.

Ah, I see the problem. You are working in PSB format (affectionately known as Photoshop Bloated format.) A flat image at that size is 3.5 GIGS.
A 2592mm x 3888mm, 240 dpi, 3.5 gig, PSB image cannot be placed into Illy. In fact, you can't do anything with it except work in Photoshop. And your printer will hate you if you send it without calling to find out what size you should be working at. An A0 size image shouldn't be much over 250mb flat in CMYK at 200dpi.
