Hi there!
I'm on a MAC OSX

when I type some characters ( such as "o" or "e") followed by a forward slash,
the forward slash dissapears and the glyph of the letter before it changes into a special character.

How do I turn this off?

Thanks a ton

If you are in Indesign:

Go into your characters panel and click on the circle with a triangle (options) in the top right hand corner of this panel.

Untick "Ligatures".

Good?

The problem is universal.
Even in textedit (mac's version of notepad) I have the problem.
It is not creating ligatures it is creating special characters.
such as an o with a strike through it when I type"o/"

Thanks for the reply though. I din't even know about ligatures. Can I turn them on in photoshop?

So is it happening regardless of the font? or just a certain font?

Those are ligatures :)

i would check your hot key settings in your system prefrences, there may be a list of defaults with an option that allows the keyboard to do that.

That's unicode text entry - it lets you enter characters for other languages. I'm not sure how it gets turned on and off, but you should probably check your language settings.

System Preference Palette>International>Input Menu>Make sure in the scroll list you have US and NOT US Unicode checked off.

^^ What PD said. That's totally what I was thinking of, but was far too distracte to say.

Honestly.

Still Happening.
I'm not on my own computer so I have no clue how or when this problem started.

I've gone into system preferences and turned off all unicode settings. Experimented with different keyboard layouts such as canadian, and u.s.
turned off ligatures in text edit.

It still happens.
but only in monospace fonts such as monaco or courier.
and the only characters i have found so far are "o" and "l" followed by a slash. This is not a ligature issue since common ligatures like fl ff do not take place.

I give up. I'll just use a different font to code my html.

Thanks for your help guys.
