Howdy!!
In InDesign, I'd thought in the font style(or some other style command)you were able to set only the 'number' to some other color you want.
For example in the style you set the text to be black, and only the number to be blue/red etc color? Or am I just dreaming?

I'm using InDesign in Japanese so what I meant by 'font style' may not be the correct word.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you want to change the color of the auto numbering for a numbered lsit, right?

The closest you can get is type/bulleted & numbered lists/convert numbering to text .... which will then allow you to change the color of it.

Was that what you needed?

Hi, Craig B
Yea! something close to what you mention but in my situation it is not auto numbering. The number's are within the text and I thougt there was a command in the style option which will recognise only the nuber in the text and give it a certain color.

Not that I know of. Unless you set the numbers to have their own character style.

At least in CS2, under bullets and numbering for paragraph styles, there's options to set font size and colour.

Are the numbers running in with the text or do they begin the paragraph? If they begin the paragraph, you could do this with a nested style.

So, if you're trying to do this:

1. text that follows in black

you'd set your paragraph style to be the style for the black test, then set up a character style for the number, and then nest that character style with the paragraph style.

If you want something like this, however:

Text in black, 1. more text in black

then I think you're out of luck. Unless you use the find/change to do it.

Oh Nooo!!! I'm the unlucky one.

What I wanted was exactly "Text in black, 1. more text in black":(

Thanks guys.

You can use find/change to deal with it after the fact. Just set your search field to digits, and that should take care of it, Takayuki. :) It'll allow you to apply your character style to the digits.

I'll have to hunt around when I get to work, I just recently watched a really good video podcast on how to deal with just that type of thing. PM me if I haven't posted in this thread sometime tomorrow, I know I can dig it up. :)

Also, depending on exactly what you're doing, you may be able to pull it off with nested styles.

Like in Urst's example, you could have one style that runs up to and including the first comma, then a second style, for red text, to run up to the full stop, and then have the remainder run with the rest of the paragraph. If there's some consistent pattern, it's possible. If there's not, then, that's what they pay you the big bucks for :D

I'd be sure to bug you.:D though I'd be busy tommorow, since I'm having a job interview. Hoping to be back on a Graphic design job.

So sad not this time, as I'm on a part time job. But glad for your tips.:)

I found the tutorial (http://www.theindesigner.com/podcasts/tid30_theindesigner_30.mp4) I was thinking of. :)

It's an mp4 video file. The original link (http://indesignsecrets.com/episode-30-findchangeformat.php) is from InDesign Secrets.
