Hi all

I have created a web page in Fireworks MX2004 and need to export it to Dreamweaver in order to edit certain text blocks.

I have read up on some tutorial about inserting slices and it mentions that I should be able to insert a placeholder.

I have checked through the entire Fireworks and unable to locate this tool.

It says that it should be under Windows - Object Placehloder.

There is no Placeholder tool available.

Do I slice the entire page into smaller slices or only the place where I need to edit the content?

Urgently need helpe here.

Cheers

I'm pretty sure they're refering to Dreamweaver making the place holder.

If you go to DW, you can have it produce a holder that fills to the width and height you spec.

Technically, you don't need to do this, you can make a table to house your slices accordingly, then where you have editable regions, make that slice the cell background and spec the width and height of that cell or something.

Ideally, and I'm sure others might back me up on this, you'll be better off using CSS for layout and you may depending on your images be producing something graphic heavy using all slices, be careful of file size.

Um, why would you PURPOSELY design for a placeholder? Placeholders are only for people who haven't laid out their design properly, and don't know how to fix it. As nyc stated, you should learn CSS for your layouts. If not, then at the very least, plan your website out ahead of time. Your website on a piece of paper in pen or pencil is worth a milllion placeholders in Dreamweaver (which is exactly what DW will create for you, if you don't do it properly yourself).
