Queen of basic questions here:
I just switched from PC to Mac, from CS2 to CS3...I don't know if any of that explains anything, but suddenly when I am creating logos in Illustrator, saving as EPS, and placing them in InDesign docs, I am seeing a white background around everything. Why is it doing that? Is there a setting I can change? Will it print that way or is this just a display issue?
Help pleeeease!
Thanks in advance,
Rachel

Drop Shadow? Any Effects used, ANY at all, in the image? If so that's your white background...

it may be indy settings, for overprint for example.

Change your InDesign display performance preferences for vector graphics from proxy (white box) to high resolution. :)

why not stop using eps and use the ai format, it'll save it with a tranperancy. an eps file is supposed to basically be a postscript file, so sometimes I believe it doesn't always save it with a transparent background.

Hold down Shift as you click on 'Open' while placing the EPS file to bring up the EPS preview options and try 'Rasterize the Postcript' to force ID to create it's own preview. Of course, just changing Display Performance from Typical to High might just be what you're looking at. But I agree with Carter-- AI (with PDF compatibility) is the best for vector file placements. It gives you complete transparency interaction (even with spot colour opacity masks from AI).

When saving the eps from Illustrator select a tiff preview not mac, Indy doesn't seem to read mac previews to well. Choosing high performance display does override the problem but not always the best option.
