in photoshop:
use the polygon shape tool, pick your number of sides. Make the shape, then make a selection of it, then make a mask out of the selection

make a hexagon shape in illustrator. copy it into photoshop. ctrl click on the hexagon shape in your layers. then select your photo layer and click the mask button on the bottom (4 over from the trashcan icon) and BAM! you got yourself a hexagon picture

Print the photo out as a standard rectangle, then with a ruler, pencil, and sharp Xacto knife, proceed to cut your finger off. Reattach finger (a physician may be required) and cut the photo into a pentagon shape with child safety scissors. Count the sides and curse a little, reprint and cut into a hexagon.

Many different methods.
Method #4 Use custom shape in photoshop which will give you a work path. Then you can load as selection or save as a clipping path.

Pantonedream, I followed your instructions. You owe me a finger.

If you followed my instructions, the finger should have been reattached. I will not pass up the chance to give someone the finger, though.
