OK, just letting off steam here since my colleagues and I were promised at the beginning of the year that we could go to this really cool graphic design conference in October and now they have changed their minds because of stupid budget issues, even though the claim was put in 18 months ago for us to go, and they said yes then. Argh! They just don't realise that as a graphic designer, you have to constantly update your skills to stay current and producing good work. They see it as 'they produce great work already, so why spend more money on their training?'

Jeez I hate pencil pushers - why don't they have a clue?! /emoticons/frusty.gif

All the time, they slow you down, alll the freakin time........

I feel your pain. Just you wait till they see a competitor do something cool and say 'hey, why can't you do that.............'

Graphic Design Heroes! Call me Captain Type Caster. I’ve fought off “The Evil Cosmic Sans” for year but it seems “Dr. Extreme Untalent” keeps bringing him back. I must find a way to defeat this evil creature.

Capt. Creative bring me those comps…

How frustrating.

You've gotta do what you've gotta do.

is there any way you can go anyways and submit your fee to them afterwards, once you can justify what you've learned to them?

i know it's a long-shot, but sometimes people are sympathetic. and if it's $100 fee, maybe you can suck it up. if it's the old $500 plus hotel deal... forget i said anything.

:( pauvre you.

Nope, it won't work like that Unc - too much large company red tape. It's a 2 day conference and will cost about £320 each plus hotel and travel expenses etc and there's 3 of us who should go. It wouldn't really be fair if only one of us went, as they have offered us £400 in total! They said they would pay for the hotel and travel if we paid the conference fees - yeah right, just after I have paid £225 for a new sodding exhaust for my car.

Anyway, time to stop whinging, but before I stop - why on earth did they say we could go last week then change their minds? Stoopid adminy type budgety people who know nothing about classy graphics, just think a stoopid clipart will do instead. Fools.

I think it is actually. Tempting me with fancy conferences and courses so that I'll stay with them and deal with the cr*ppy pay. But nooooooooooooooo I think it's definately time to get on the phone and get some CVs out there and see what's about in the graphics world.

This sounds really familur.
I work for a smaller company, and the big reason I stay is because the owners and people I work with I great. But I am always getting the promises....
promises of a raise
promises of going to that really cool seminar
promises of upgrading the software
promises of a fricken day off

I have reliezed it is very easy to promise something. Yet harder to actually come through with the promise...
