Is there a setting to turn off highlighted text?

I don't even know what to call it but here's the situation...

when I do any work with type in Indy it highlights the text in a light pink, even when it is not currently selected. The only way I can "turn this preference off" is by viewing in preview mode. How do I get rid of it?

It's probably a newbie question, but I cannot for the life of me figure it out and have been just living with it for months.

thanks in advance.

are we talking about the "pink highlight" it does when the font is missing?

That's what I was thinking. If thats the case, go to find font and see which ones you need to turn on!

For the substituted fonts yeah....which now makes me wonder wtf because my fonts are all there and working fine as far as I can tell (on and ok). But I been using the worthless font book for font management. Been screaming for Suitcase since I started here. I should be all up-to-date on software etc once new Imac arrives.

Edit: Problem was with Times which is my default font which is why it always pnk until font was changed. Seems to be corrupted. Heh I never made the connection before (duh), now that I know what the PINK highlight is makes sense.

You can always change your default font DM. Something like Dingbats or Wingdings is pretty fun.

lol buda ur funny...yes that Pink highlight is definitely due to a font issue. What font mgmt software are you using? I use Extensis fusion, they have an Indy Plugin that automatically turns on the fonts your using in a doc when it opens, and closes when finished, I think it is great! :)

And of course do what cornfed said....if u turn that font on, you should be fine...usually you need to close the file and reopen it though...

I don't have to reopen my document, DVHL. But I know some other people do. I wonder why that is.

Different versions of Extensis? Or maybe different versions of Indy?

My Illustrator needs to be restarted to get any Extension activation changes.

Wingdings is easier to read than comic sans. ;)

DM, you are certainly on to something there. I never even considered having a stroked and coloured font as my default font. Glad SOMEONE is thinking! :)

I use Linotype Font Explorer X with InDesign. Works like a charm, and it's a free download. Way more stable than Suitcase, at least on my computer. :)

at first glance it looks like the itunes of fonts....esp w/ the fact that you can buy fonts directly through it....not a bad little option there...

So its been pretty stable w/ most apps? How well does it play w/ CS3? I've thought about trying it but i've read mixed reviews on it's stability. Does it have to always be running like an app to work, or does it work in the back...more how ATM worked...

nm not compatible w/ cs3 :( too bad.

based on reading about it doesn't sound that fantastic...unless it can run in the BG...I really love Extensis Suitcase Fusion. It has never let me down...

That is too bad, DesignVHL (I use CS2, so didn't know). However, they do upgrade, fairly frequently, if you're patient they might up the compatibility to CS3, especially once those apps are more commonly in use when more people have upgraded.

I've been liking it 1,000 times more than any other font manager I've ever used. What would be great is if the auto-activate worked with Photoshop and Illustrator as well, but that seems to be a typical problem with a lot of font managers. With InDesign it's seamless. And it works more or less in the background, kind of like Suitcase and ATM.

Cool...well I might give it a test run in Leopard then when an upgrade comes out for that and CS3 compatibility...doesn't matter right now, I just have Leopard running on a new External FW HD for testing at the moment....kinda nice having two Operating systems I can work on though...its been fun, yes i'm a nerd.

Really? We got Fusion for 1 of our Macs here (not mine) and we can't get it to work properly. It crashes all the time and constantly gives us font hassles. I'm thinking of downgrading that computer and buying the older version of Extensis Suitcase.

Give Linotype Font Explorer a try, Buda. The worst that could happen is you hate it or it doesn't work, but it's a free download. Unless you guys have upgraded to CS3 already?

Buda what kind of a system are you running and how is it setup? I FIRMLY believe that apps run best when your taking really good care of your system, and stay organized. I just added 2 more gigs of ram to my computer...but i'm on a dual 2.3 gh G5 that had 2gb of ram before - and I run tons of apps - ya know the usual, except quark i don't want to buy that for home ... anyways....NEVER a crash! I'm pretty good about running my disk utility for repairing permissions and repair disks fairly often, and rarely EVER shut my computer down. I also ONLY use my startup disc for running apps, the OS, and system files...I have a projects and image library that uses up my second internal HD, then I have two more external HDs...one for music, videos, and media...and the other i just got for backup..but i'm using it for Leopard right now...

Knock on wood here, but I've never had problems...until recently when i went to backup my startup drive w/ SuperDuper...and it says I have to reformat the disc that it had errors or is bad or something...but i'm in that startup right now, and not having many problems....its been over 2 years however, and I plan on wiping it clean and installing leopard - as soon as I feel ready - which may not be for a while. :)

No CS3 here. The computer in question is actually a new computer but it seemed to crash from day one. It's been to the shop a few times and our tech guys say there is nothing wrong with it, but still it crashes.

I will suggest Linotype Font Explorer to my coworker Urst.

I've been digging it.

I was initially using Suitcase, but then switched to an Intel iMac at work, and for some reason Suitcase wouldn't load certain fonts. So I switched to Explorer, and problem free since then. It does have its quirks, but much fewer than the Suitcase thing seemed to have.

I'm glad that works for you...Definitely going to test it out in Leopard when I can...

I think it is very interesting how one person can have no problems at all, and others have problems..not just in this instance, but any software program. I rarely if ever have any issues....at worse, a small app crash every great once in a while when doing heavy work.
