Weather wise I would say Atlanta, Pretty good job market there as well.
I am a formar Atlantan, now a near Savannahian /emoticons/wink.gif
Chicago the weather is milder, crime rate is higher and the freaking wind almost never stops, ca't say anything job wise, but my advise is to stay in the south /emoticons/wink.gif

so far i got -
atlanta 1
chicago 0
any others?
Atlanta is still the fastest growing City so there is alot of potential for a freelancer looking for business. Although you can always get clients from competitors cause lets face it some Graphic Artist really suck and probably should be doing something else. But getting new aspiering entrepreneur as clients might prove to be a better career move.

I live in Atlanta, and work in ATlanta, and go to school in Atlanta. :) I say atlanta. But seriously, I actually just read an article the other day about the top cites to live in: Atlanta was number 7, for the best to live in and the best job market. It's a greta city. :) Good luck with your decision. Feel free to ask any questions...

don't come to Jacksonville, please.
Atlanta...beautiful, up and coming and by golly, hardly windy at all! Chicago is old, established, hardcore and has terrible weather.
Hm....fun, sunny pretty city - windy, big, mean city........
Good luck choosing!
Peace

actually, i am from jacksonville. i moved to raleigh to get my masters in design at NC state - yes, i moved away as far and as fast as i could from jax. love the family and friends i have there; but the city is a dead end.
no money into the arts...its is depressing.

Orlando sucks? I don't think so. I made more money coming here from Boston 4 years ago and I see alot of good jobs opening.

Saucy! What a great word that is Joe!
Seeminglyhere - Jax isn't so bad is it? I mean is it just the money thats bad? It's only 2 hours from me, I have a good friend there that is in the Navy. It's a bit bigger town than I wanna live in...buts its ok to visit.

I like Medievil Times better than Arabian Nights, personally. Any time you can use the term 'wench' and not be crucified for it, it's a good time.

d-zine,
no - dont get me wrong; i am sure it is a great place to visit. especially if you are looking to settle down and start a family. There are a lot of good people there, its just the job market isn't the greatest, regarding design.
plus I am from there with growning pains aching to get out.

i guess you weren't joking about orlando. yes, i am sure orlando is for some. it always seemed a little too disposable for me. but yea, i am sure the job market it pretty good.

Ahhh ok I see what you mean. I had to get outta my hometown too but now I miss it now! Jax - a good place to raise a family..really? haha! Its like a big city to me compared to Savannah.

big city...small mentality.
not to be so rough on me hometown; but that's the case - it is very southern baptist there, which seems to squelch the 'creative' community. I am sure its not just the religious overtones that restrict jacksonville's growth; but that is just on facet. i don't know, maybe things are getting better, and i am not giving it a chance (but judging from vectorgfxqueen
post, i am not) after all is said and done - i still miss the place though; my memories are banked there!
it is a good place to start a family, because the crime rate is low (i think 9th lowest in the nation, and it is very communal) if you are looking to settle in, those are the things you look for...right?

Hummm I don't see many problems with Orlando beyod the ones of a metro city. the only thing that is different here is that people are SLOW and STUPID! Drive slow, walk slow and talk slow. also you have the red necks that walk around in stores with no shoes or shirts on...STUPID!

Yeah...I didn't realize the crime rate was so low in the Jax area....but yeah..those are some of the things I would consider if I had a family I guess. I had considered moving to Jax at one time but I think I am pretty happy here in Savannah - its home :o) and 2 - 4 hours from pretty much everywhere so thats good!
LOL @ Joe...yeah...ppl down south here are just...at a slower pace I guess. When I went up North to see my aunt in New Hampshire it was like total culture shock to me. We drove all 21 hours from here to there and there is a HUGE differance in the people down here to up there. I would NEVER go into a store without my shoes on tho...ewee...or of course my shirt..ROFLMFAO!! Those are some major hucklebucks Joe! haha!!

You can walk around with your shirt off anytime D! I prefer it actually.
that is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. Really.. it's illegal. but yet no one that works there says anything about it. Why have the stupid law if your not going to follow it?
HUGE difference in attitude up north then here. it took a while to get use to and i stil am.
