Use grayscale tifs for a black and white brochure.

Look at the demensions in your dialog box-- 8.25x1.506. Of course the pic is coming in scewed. Make a new page and create a picture box only and get picture. If it scews again it must be in your Quark preferences somewhere. If you see anything that allows you to "fit to picture box or frame" unselect it.

Check the pixel aspect ratio in the picture's file: in PS, go to Image > Pixel Aspect Ratio, and in the fly-out menu make sure the check is next to Square. For some reason I'm thinking that the image would be squished vertically instead of horizontally if this is in fact what's causing your problem, but that's the first thing that came to my mind.

And regardless of the color space, you really should be using 300 dpi images for anything print, never 72 dpi. You mention this is a brochure, I can only assume you intend to print it.

And while you are at it, find out what format the graphic is. Also, click the image in Quark and look down at your measurement pallet to see what % is the graphic's X&Y.

Add extensions to any file you work with. I've seen buggy things happen to files that don't have extensions. CPUs base a lot of how they know what to do with each file based on what the .xxx extension is.

You may have something there. The dialog box from the op shows it as a pc and the graphics have no extensions at the end. Save graphics as a tif or eps with ext. might do it.

I bet any money they have extensions, but they preference of hiding extensions of known file types is checked. You can tell in the photo by the icons that the computer knows what type of file they are. If there wasn't an extension you would get the generic "what the hell is this icon."

*Wow! What a great PC extensions mind!

But would you get that "what the hell is this icon" or doggy eared thingy from a dialog box apposed to viewing the files in a folder? And, did you look down yet? :D

I don't entirely sure what you're asking, but if you use windows view or an open file dialog you are running the same thing. You'll have the same result. All the icons will look the same.

What am I looking down at? WYSIWYG?
