So yeah, I hate this day. I worked retail all through college and I always dreaded the holiday season. The only good part about it was getting 50% off at Fossil (where I worked) so that was nice getting to buy everyone watches and such and only drop a couple hundred bucks.
BUT, this year, ill probably be hitting up the stores early. Doing some shopping little by little before christmas since I don't have money saved up. I came across this site, which I thought was pretty funny.
OMG, ITS LIKE THEY ARE IN THE FUTURE!!!! (http://bfads.net/Adscans)
enjoy ;)
Those black friday sites are great. I have been looking through them for the last couple weeks because my parents T.V. is going and were looking for an LCD to replace it. After comparing prices for black friday sales he decided to shop early cause he got a screaming deal on a 42" 1080i LCD at Sears. Under $700 tax included.

eek!! you couldn't pay me to shop on Black Friday
Me neither Kittie. I rarely leave the house unless I am on foot. The traffic generated by Best Buy, Circuit City, Barnes and Noble etc. is not worth the hassle to me but a friend of mine always goes out. We have it worked out to a science.
Close out the bars on Thanksgiving night after dinner with our respective families.
Drive around looking for an open restaurant to get some greasy breakfast to help sober our drunk asses up.
After breakfast it is usually around 4:00 or so. I go home to sleep and he goes to pick up a few people to go shopping with. He usually takes his mom because she has a handicapped parking badge. They never wait in line and yet somehow they always are among the first ones in the store...

Is mom in a wheelchair? Airplanes, theatres and shopping mobs. Wheelchairs to the front of the line. What a cool concept your friend has, MD!
I like Black Friday now. For the business it generates in October. :D

Ughh, don't remind me. I get to go at it again.
Don't forget roller coaster lines PD :D
She had 2 replaced knees so for a for a while she was in a chair but I don't know if they use it or not on black Friday. I think they just park in the handicapped parking right in front of the doors and get out when they see the guy coming to unlock the doors and slip right in with the crowd.
Good Luck Roobs - can you get me a wii ... my friend is still looking for one?

I don't think I've ever shopped on a Black Friday...too busy recovering from Thanksgiving Thursday, hehe. But I see it as a little less traumatizing than shopping at the last minute, of which I'm perpetually guilty of. :p
Yesterday Toys R Us had a late night door buster sale that I just had to check out. According to my sources it originally had 50% off everything in the store. That wasn't the case (surprise, surprise ) but I did buy a lot of great items like a portable DVD/CD/MP3 player for USD26. bucks. Me mum tested it out and it works great. I also bought a Disney mini pix camera at a steal (that way my kidlet will leave mine alone :D). I have a few nieces and nephews who are going to be pretty happy this holiday.
And the best part? The place was practically empty! Wheeee!
Just have a couple of more gifts to buy and I'll be set early. For a change.
:D

Well, it's nights like I had tonight that made me really wish I never took that big risk at taking the internship and dropping my last job (even though that would suck just as bad, but the pay is better and I at least had insurance). Seriously, some people are ****ing douchebags.
Anyway, fat chance on the Wii. Those things are usually gone in like a couple of hours...if we get them for Black Friday, I seriously believe we should have cops on stand by, because that would get ugly. The shipment of 54 we had on Sunday was gone by 11 in the morning, on just a regular old weekend.

Black Friday Sales? We don't have those. Around here, Black Friday is when a Friday falls on the 13th of the month.

I remember those days all too well. I also worked retail during college and Black Friday normally meant fights breaking out between customers, the workers getting yelled at (or worse), a**holes taking up space not buying anything, and people trying to run each other over in the parking lot. Working on the day after Thanksgiving will turn you into a warrior. *shivers, curls into a ball and starts rocking back and forth*

"Black Wednesday (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Wednesday)" was 16th Sept '92 in the UK. Nothing to do with Holiday sales though.

Consider me King Leonidas then. This will be my seventh one, my fourth in the electronics department.
Actually, now that I think about it, that 300 analogy is rather accurate. We pretty much hold position at the Fiery Gates (the counter), while the droves of sheep barge in at 5 a.m. at full speed right for us, but we hold our ground. The odds are about the same, thousands of them against like, six or seven of us.

It's the day after Thanksgiving when prices are super low for every store. On this day, everyone loses their minds trying to hit each store to get something that they probably don't need on sale. Also, the whole "good will towards men" thing goes completely out of the window and mob mentality and self-preservation rules. Sorry to have a bleak outlook on it but, anyone who has worked retail on this day has probably felt this way.
Reuber-the crazy thing is that I worked at a major pet supply store and all of this plus more was happening. You would be amazed at what happens at places like that! Maybe not though since you have to man the gates yourself. I hope you have your shield and sword ready.

for any particular reason or just to clear stock?
people are so materialistic these days :( i really do not understand the *need* for a bargain... I've seen an elderly woman get her nose broken over a sale before. very very sad. there's not much more unattractive than women fighting over discounted stock.

Mainly for Christmas Gifts. or other winter holidays that people spend too much on.
I hit the stores once on Black Friday to get a $30 scanner and my friend got a deal on a computer. Since hen i have hit the stores during normal business hours and sometimes go around 10:30/11am to get teh deals that are over at noon. But i will be making holiday-like dinner to have leftovers this Black Friday and will miss the deals. Oh Well, I bought a few things yesterday when it was calm, rather than get up at 4am to buy the same thing for $10 difference.

People lose their minds this day.
All I can say is for those of you who absolutely want to make a deal, for stores that do receipt adjustments, find out early via the different leaked websites what it is exactly you want, get it earlier in the week, and then come in during the sale period just for a receipt adjustment, and then GTFO of there.

Very interesting tactic Reuber.
I may have to see what OfficeDepot is doing I just bought a few camera cards yesterday instead of trying to get out of bed too early to get it.

I've done a Black Friday in retail once and only once in 1995, my first job. Had never been out shopping on the day after Thanksgiving, not to mention that I was very young and naive so I came in the store that morning like any other day. Remember stepping into the store and my jaw hitting the floor as I looked at the lines.
I'll be safely at home waiting for the cable man that Friday. Besides, I'm broke.

There's not much more unattractive than watching anyone, no matter what sex fight over stuff they don't actually need.
I'm not built for shopping. I don't seem to have the gene that most women carry for it ;) . If I need any clothes or anything then I'd rather just go to a store on my own and get it over with. Don't get me wrong, I like to look good in my clothes, I just don't like having to look for the clothes that are going to look good. Never been to a US sale. It seems that the size 4 stuff and size 7 shoes is always the first to go anyway, so there's never much left by the time the crazies are done with it apart from the neon green XXXL moomoos.

I'm can't stand to shop ... period, end of story ... so to me Black Friday is a day I would never go out on and never have.
I hate going to stores .. I had standing in line ... I hate people bumping in to me.... yes I feel that I am a future hermit in the making :D

"Black Friday"!
It's the worst I've ever known.
One customer desides they want to winge about anything and eveything.
Another desides to feltch off a £2000 contract.
Angry don't cut it, anyone know some reliable boys with baseball bats to assist me?

I'll be going to the mall on Black Friday - but not to shop.
I plan on dressing up like Jesus and walking around shaking my head at people.
Then I'll walk up to Santa and tell him he's nothing more than a clown at my birthday party.

There was a dicussion about doing this on another forum I frequent and a lot of people were saying the price adjustment thing is null and void during Black Friday.

I worked in a grocery store so the beginning of this week was the worst and Friday is tame. I swear, we ran out of turkeys every year yet 50 poeple would throw a fit Wednesday night that there are no turkeys. Turkeys keep in your freezer for up to a year people! maybe dont wait til the day before thanksgiving!
You could be one of my disciples. Plus, then I wouldn't be drinking by myself. :D
If I was up early enough to be one of your disciples it would probably be Judas ... I hear there is some pretty good LCD TV sales and since I am already up and at the mall it would be too hard to pass up.

Obviously, we don't celebrate Thanksgiving here, but my boss just came round with a list and asked "Ham or Turkey?". I picked ham. I always pick ham.
All staff get a hunk of meat gifted to them before Christmas. Though vegetarians or those that don't want a hunk of meat get supermarket gift vouchers.

Work? Who gambles the day after Thanksgiving?
The same people who gamble on Christmas? This weekend is built for a good bender ... add some strippers and an excessive amount of alcohol and you have a great start. The Wednesday night before Thanksgiving is one of the biggest party nights of the year. Follow that up with a few beers to prime the pump during the Packer/Lions game and a another huge party when the bars open up on thanksgiving night. You still have Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
