I need to have arched text in in design, I don't know of a way to create arched text in indesign so I went to illustrator thinking I could just copy and paste, no problem. So when the text was copied into indesign it appears really rasterized.

My thinking is that the text should stay in vector between both programs, is that right? Or am I just doing something wrong?

Thanks

It works just fine for me, doesn't look rasterized at all.

Are you looking at the artwork in InDesign with frame edges showing, perhaps? That gives it a sort of rasterized look, although the edges are a different color.

Save as eps/ai in illy, then file >place in indesign perhaps?

Or it could be the view quality? You know.. "View >>> View quality or something rather >> best quality?"

Did you use Make with Warp to arch the text in AI? If you did, you might want to expand the selection before copying into ID and see if that works.

I also think it's the setting on View> High quality ?? something in that area.

Check your clipboard preferences in Illustrator. (Preferences: File Handling & Clipboard).

Down in the bottom, UNcheck PDF, CHECK AICB. I leave "Preserve Paths" selected.

Copying/pasting from Illy to Indy I got the same result as you until I changed those settings. Now, in Indesign, the selection comes over, but is no longer a font. It is converted to outlines, but still editable (as far as clicking, selecting, coloring, etc.).

Report back and let us know if you solve it-

It can be done in Indesign to save you the trouble. Draw a path with no fill or stroke, hold down the 'text' tool and drop down to 'text on a work path' and then click on the path and type away. This way it's editable within indesign and saves switching between software

It can be done, but I too think Urstwile is correct in saying that perhaps when you paste it in, the edges show the borders of the now Vectored Shapes and not as editable type. And it looks crappy. have you tried printing it?

Select your warped text, and use Object => Expand Appearance.

Once you've done that, you can do whatever youw want, either click-and-drag it into Indy, or save it as an EPS and place it.

If you place it as an eps, then you will need to use High Quality Display for it to show clearly in Indy on your preview (doesn't effect print), but if you click-and-drag it into Indy, it will be editable vector paths, directly in Indy.

Ok, problem solved. And it actually worked just copying and pasting, I tried and tried all these other ways yall are saying...but once I actually ran it throught the printer It looks perfectly fine.

I don't know what was going on, but it works.
