Why don't you tell your family too? That's an awful lot to ask of your girlfriend.

That's a lot of money is all. For me.

I guess that amount doesn't seem all that high to me. No one would bat an eye if he said he was buying her a 100 dollar diamond pendant or necklace ;)

I guess. I'm on a tight budget these days. I haven't started shopping for Xmas but my flatmate's budget per person was $20NZ so that's about 10 Euros per person. I guess it all depends on how many people you gotta buy presents for too.

That is very true ... now if I could just find someone to buy me a diamond necklace :D

To be honest, for me personally things are so tight .. I'm thinking of giving everyone a bag of homemade goodies rather than stress over not having much money to buy them anything ... and everybody likes goodies :D

I like goodies!

I spent lots of money last year. I'm sure my family will understand that I'm a little tight this year.

I'm sure they will ... and if any of my family gives me any lip... I remind them their incomes are like triple mine lol :D

my family is so large that my mom suggested this for the adults in the fam. (wouldn't really be fair to the kids, and the kids wouldn't understand):

Instead of purchacing something for someone in your family, purchase something (towels, clothes, etc) to donate to a homeless shelter, orphanage, family crisis center etc. Or donate your time to a worthy cause. Have the place give you a reciept or certificate (or whatever) saying that "this/these item(s) were donated in honor of this person".

It worked pretty well with the ones in our family who understood it, and really sometimes it's just too hard to figure out what someone else needs, but how often do homeless shelters, orphanages, or crisis centers get the gift of something NEW? Usually they get everyone's cast-offs.

Last year (I think) mom suggested we all give each other cards with something specific that we loved about each other. I (of course) designed my own cards and did inserts for the specific letters....made my mom cry when she read hers...priceless!

Snazzy books you have there. I like your thinking of the books as gifts. I always forget that I like new design books and forget to ask for them as gifts. THey are GREAT, cheap and will get lots of use!!! :)

*passes a few of those books onto his girlfriend* ;)

Books are cheap CkretAjint?

I love giving books as gifts too. My parents bought me a book for my birthday. I think it was in the realm of about $150. Maybe I just have expensive taste in books!

I am living on the cheaper side of life right now. After my move my credit card bill sky rocketed. So I am trying to pay that down before I buy 'other' stuff to keep me busy. I HATE, HATE, HATE having debt...

So your 100 Euro limit on buying Christmas presents for each other - she's giving you an allowance to buy presents for her?

No its cash i have saved. WHY am i a sucker?????? Im in Ireland and here if your a full time student it very hard to get part time work. I coulda stayed in a dead end job for the rest of my life and never have anything to show for it. But now after 2 years i can start a career. Iv 3 kids and me ad my G.F have been living together for a long time now. We might aswell be marride. And isent that what couples do.. SUPPORT EACH OTHER?.

So when you have somthing to say like SUCKER try to learn the sit situation first. Its not easy trying to educate yourself in this country.

I thought Frankster meant the G.F. was the sucker.

As a wife supporting my husband I can see how she'd think that. I think it myself sometimes (when I'm mad at him), but then I remember that it's perfectly acceptable for a woman to stay at home and raise the kids and I get over it (for the most part).

I'll be getting my roommate something small and my son has a new computer on the way (thanks muchly to my roommates generosity). I don't have anything left for the rest of the family - but I am going to try to make a few things.

Christmas for myself will be trying to raise $3,000 for my next cancer screening (cushion in case the insurance doesn't cover everything).

Though I'm much more in the Christmas spirit than I have been in the last couple years. Especially after being sick and all. I made 3 batches of cookies, and some brownies to take into work to start the Christmas month out right.

:)
