translation

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this group and I was hoping someone had an an answer to something a client wants me to do.

I did a site for a client now she wants it to translate when her hispanic clients go into it. I've seen some translation sites but it looks like something you download on your own computer to translate sites. I am hoping to make this so it will translate if a person has their computer set in Spanish language.

Hi Cheri,

I don't 'think' you can get a site which translates itself...

WHat you can do is recreate the site in Spanish and then adjust the htaccess file so that people using spanish language machines will be directed to the Spanish version first.

Or you could lay in some links for people to use to go between the languages.

Flag images are often best as they are clear and don't require other users to download, or cancel, language pack requests.

If your client wants the site translatted, I would also suggest you supply them with a Document listing all the terms which will require translation.

Stuff like the Alt text, keywords etc, that you might have built into the site. It will all require (or it would be best) translation and your client won't even think of it...

Set up a splash page at the begining of the site. When you go to it it asks if you want the English version, or the Spanish version. Click your choice and you are directed to the appropriate site.

Decide whcih language you use as your leader and link between the two.

What I'm not understanding is this

To be Honest I don't know how to set this Up. I'm not even sure if it is the htaccess that you use. But I know it can be achieved using sa serverside file.

But you'd need to have some input from a Server Guru rather than me. I'll ask a couple of friends though, incase they know.
