Just curious.
I've had mine for 6 years now and am desparate for a new one, but this one will have to tie me over for at least another year.
How often do you buy a new computer or upgrade?
No mac vs pc arguments here please.

I upgrade just about every year. My current rig is about 9 months old, almost time to upgrade another motherboard and processor here soon.

Well, I bought a new machine about a monthe ago. Before that, the old one was about 3 years old, which is fairly typical for me.

I go about every 5 years for work or personal. I tend to buy with that goal in mind. Upgradable.
About due. Any moment now I can see Adobe deciding all non-intel machines are obsolete.

minimonster (now the file swap) 2002
Laptop (now dead) 2004
MegaMonster (not so mega yet, but upgradable - my boss bought it for $430 end of model clearance) 2007
Just ordered my son's first laptop - with 3yr all parts/accidental replacement for $1418 (incl tax) from dell. 1.5mgz dual core, 2gig ram, and a 250 sata drive, 15.4" glossy screen. (He doesn't know yet. Made a bargan 2 years ago that if he maintained a b-honor or better for two semesters straight that he'd get a laptop. It had to wait because I was sick, but now it's more than time to give it to him.) He turns 16 next week.

I have had my macbook for just over a year and i am going to milk it for every penny (hoping to keep it for atleast another four years). i am researching external monitors because i own the 13" model, and it is a little small now that i am using it on a large desk. as i speak it is in a coma due to it crashing during a firmware update - but it is almost fixed. the best thing about owning any apple related product is that there is a very large community on the net that are extremely helpful if something goes wrong.

Mine is going on 5 years now. It's starting to show its age. I am going to double up the ram and use it for another couple years.

My laptop is just about 3 years old now... I am shocked it made it this long, I spilled a whiskey sour on it about two months after I got it... it's never been the same, but it still works well enough!!!

I've had my current home computer for 2-1/2 years. It's still working fine, and until I can no longer run the software I need to on it, or it coughs up its last hairball and I can't get it to function anymore, I'll wait to upgrade. Fact is, I'm hoping to get at least another 3 to 4 years out of it (a non-Intel iMac, the second to last model before they went Intel). At work, I just upgraded to an Intel iMac from a G4, one of the earlier G4's, by the way, not by choice, but because the G4 just died and wouldn't come back to life again.
I'm glad it gave me the opportunity to upgrade as I was definitely feeling the processor slowness blues at work.
I tend not to upgrade until absolutely necessary.
My computers tend to last me around 4 or 5 years, I am not much off an upgrader. I tend to skip every other adobe and OS release. I will usually make a big upgrade at the 2 - 2 1/2 year mark. New OS, Software Upgrades, and maybe a ram or HD bump.
I have been dragging my heels in buying a new computer. I have the money saved up from freelance work and I think I am finally going to buy in mid January after Macworld.

3 years, sony vaio laptop, which is abit out of date now)
I guess if i upgrade ram i can still use it for work, but right now cs2 is slow, and i'm scared of running cs3 (p4 3ghz, 512mb ram, 40gb hdd).
Lucky to have a new desktop which i can use, but i really need to get a reasonably portable, powerful laptop. =)
thinking of getting del xps m1330 with 4gb ram, 7200rpm sata drive and a nice dualcore processor =)
It'll probably last me 2-3 years.

yarusskii, you won't be running CS3 on 512 ram... I'm surprised CS2 is running on that. I don't doubt it's slow.
