I didn't know there was a choice! Always thought a tablet was a tablet.

how much will you use it ? would you do alot of work on it or you just thinking of getting one to try, i got one over the summer to try (wacom bambo) but before i thought of going all out and getting a A5 or even a A4 size drawing area one but thought i'll just try a small one first and it's perfect for my needs. maybe later i will upgrade. hope that helps the bambo one is only around £50 to £60

I can't see anything about there being two kinds on wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pen_tablet).

Who told you there were 2 kinds of pens tablets?

I prefer small tablets - I'm lazy - I don't want to move my whole arm!

A5 will do. I think A6 is too small too.

i would use wacom, i use dual 22" widescreen monitors and i find the bambo fine for the work i use it for but yeah if you are going to use it alot then go all out and get the intuos. he's the full rangehttp://www.wacom-europe.com/int/products/intuos/index.asp?lang=en&pid=8

Wacom is better. I used to have one which I loved until the pen stopped working. I bought a Genius to replace it to save money and I wanted to throw it off a cliff. In the end I gave the Genius to my little sister to play with (after it served as a mousepad for a time).

Can anyone recommend a Genius? I can't. I say stay away.

Thought I better put why I hated Genius so much. Basically it was like having to etch with a nail into wood. Sometimes it would work like a normal pen, other times I really had to apply tons of pressure to get anything out of it. Imagine getting tired from having to etch a drawing with a nail into a plank of wood. That's what using the Genius was like. I didn't need that kind of hassle. I'd rather use a mouse to draw than use Genius.

monkey900 can you give me your opinion about the "wacom bamboo" tablet?
the intous is too expensive...

buda which one did u used?

I think I had a and I was pretty happy with it. I don't do any pressure sensitive stuff (like digital painting) so no need for an intuos (just a want). I had a search but they don't seem to sell the Wacom that I bought 6 years ago. It was blue and white and very simple.

I paid about $150 for it 6 years ago so that is around the same as what you will pay for a wacom bamboo.

I'd like to hear a review on the bamboo too. I'd be keen to get another wacom tablet. Actually, what I really should do is just get another pen!

Hmm, looking at the Wacom site, the Bamboo appears to be basically the old Graphire, and now the Graphire is the Graphire BT and has Bluetooth.

Are they just doing this to confuse us?

Anyway, I have a Graphire and it's fine. I'd kinda like the Intuos, but having tried them, I'm not convinced that they're enough better to justify the amount extra they cost.

well I think that the BT graphire is lame... its the same as the bamboo just that he's wireless and i think it only cuz more problems... and it cost another $50 ...

and buda, im getting my bamboo in about 3 days I'll write a review about it for u :D

Just a little note about Wacom. I finally convinced my co-designer at work to move to a tablet and she got a Intuos 3 -- like mine. Only newer. Only.... there was a problem with the firmware and there's no pressure out. She's been waiting for a month now to get the file from Wacom to update it.

But yeah, I've tried other tablet makers over the years, but the big W still rates the highest for me. They bought me a 12 x 9 inch model-- it's good for a two-screen setup (though to keep things proportional that means throwing out almost half the tablet's vertical area). On a single screen system, I'd go with the 9x6. Easier on the desktop.

And then there's always the Cintiq.... how many shopping days til Christmas?

yeah man…
for my needs which are a little illustrator use and mainly Photoshop it’s fine I would advise to try a small one first and see how you go then if you feel that you need a bigger one then go for a intuos 3 cause they have a couple move features which you might get the use out of. I find that with my knowledge of photoshop you get around them. I found with my bamboo I could set it up to use just one of my screens (cause I run dual 21” (not 22” which I said before sorry)) also I found that with having widescreen monitors I could trace things a lot better. Did anyone have the same outcome or am I not using it right ??

I think they have or are bringing a new version of the bamboo out called bamboo fun I think!!. Check that out.

I have this one and LOVE it:

Currently there are some decent prices on these (and others) on Ebay including:

As for models on Wacom, I actually like the Intuos 1 and 2 design better than the three. The pen was lighter, and I really miss the top row of programmable function bars.

Ah yes, just googled it and I did indeed have a Graphire. I was happy with the Graphire.

wow!~@#
I bought the A6 bamboo fun and it's great! i tried the intuos3 at the store wow it's good but to expensive.
and i tried an A5 and A6 and A6 is better for me (A5 it's a lot of hand moving)
if you wanna buy something that isn't too expensive so the bamboo is great for u
and if u have the money buy an intuos3 its so smooth that u dont fell like drawing O:

That's good to know.

And nice to see that there is someone just as lazy (if not lazier) as me with their arm/handmovement.

Conserve your precious energy! Save money! Get a smaller Wacom!

Energy conservation? Sustainable drawing? Now that's a concept to conjure with! Me, I love my Intuos 3 6x8, but I get all drooly and start slobbering on my shirt front every time some dude at a Wacom booth shows me a Cintiq.
