aid, here is a thread on what steps to take if your pet is lost. Actually, it deals specifically with cats, but a lot of the steps are the same.
http://www.catforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=7722
I would also be sure to add that you should contact every single shelter and animal hospital in the area. If your dog manages to slip her collar, these are the people who would likely find her and if they know that she belongs to you, that's a head start in getting her back home.

I really am a cat person, I just don't happen to have one right now. Actually, it's probably a good thing, as a cat would probably eat the pet I do have.

Charlie is fluffier than the Jack Russells I've seen (http://pics.hoobly.com/full/c05b66c133ea2d3a485ef482ad2141e1.jpg)...

Aww, cute pix Buda. Those pink pads are killin' me with cuteness.
Charlie's very cute, but he is fuzzier than most of the Jack Russell's I've seen. Is there a long haired variety to the breed?

The pink pads kill me too Urst. I don't think she realises how dangerous it is for her to sleep like that with her pink paws exposed. I want to grab her and snorgle her up.

I just had to check if snorgle is a word:
Snorgle (Snorg, Snarfle, Sqush, etc., etc., etc.)
Snort + Snuggle. Summarizes the situation when you moosh your face into a fuzzy wuzzy smoochie wiggle and make googoo noises. First appearance on Teh Qte™ was here.
Try it with a hedgehog. (Wear snorgoggles.)
Great glossary here. (http://www.squidgrid.com/cute/Glossary.htm) :)

Buda - you can get two types of Russells, long (or wire) haired and smooth haired. Smooth ones are more common I think, probably because they nicer to stroke!

Leonard looks just like my Othello and Urstwiles Darla!!
I just looked back at the photos, you're right, they do look alike! Does Othello have any funny habits? Leonard likes to eat photographs (he likes the coating), and he also has a fascination with underwear and bras, he likes to steal them and drag them around like prey (he's an indoor cat). Not kidding. If we have overnight company, we have to warn them. I told a friend of mine who was housesitting once to watch out, and she took the warning lightly. She later informed me she found her underwear strewn around the house!!!

Darla has a fixation for ripping paper to shreds. All we have to do is throw a piece of paper or part of a newspaper on the floor, and she instantly rips it to shreds with her claws. And no matter how many toys we've gotten for her, her favorite is an old Christmas ribbon.

Othello used to have a lot of weird habits. He used to love to use our dirty laundry as a litter box. He loved to play with paper and string and milk jug lids. He had a leg amputated a year and a half ago. Now, all of his strange energies have gone into hissing at his phantom limb. I think it drives him nuts sometimes. Lots of evenings he sits there and hisses at it and confuses his tail for his leg. If I scratch his ear on the side of his missing leg then his little leg stump goes to town like he's scratching! He's very loving and loves to give kisses. I call it exfoliation but I think he really thinks he's cleaning me. He also loves to lick my hands after I've put on lotion!!

My kids let him out on halloween. He got scared and ran off. Then he tried to jump a fence and got his leg caught in the fence, thus breaking it in half. Then, when he tried to wiggle himself free he dislocated both of his hips. (This is what the vet said) He laid for 9 days until he was strong enough to make it home. Once he made it home, he had lost half of his body weight, was anemic, dehydrated and his leg was starting to rot. The vet said he was waiting for the pain to subside before he could make it home. The fence story makes sense cause we lived by a coulee system that runs through our town. His bone was exposed and black. He was a mess. Took him to the animal er where they wrapped it up and sent me home. Then he went to the vet and they amputated it the next day. We didn't repair his other dislocated hip cause the vet said he would grow scar tissue and that would be just as good as surgery. He said the surgery might not work as well anyway because scar tissue had already started to form on the non-amputated leg and that could complicate matters. He gets around pretty good for having 3 legs but recovery was slow and difficult. I'm still paying for his surgery!!

Thanks! Just the three at the moment. Planning on getting the odd one out a mate, but the tank hasn't had much in it for a while and I need to stock it slowly. I'd like a pair of maroon clowns as well, but I need more money and more space for that (each pair pretty much requires a seperate tank or they like to kill each other).

I am sorry for your loss, amiart... are you familiar with the story of the Rainbow Bridge? (Author Unknown)
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.

Like, as in bengal tiger?
That's a little more than a pet! :DThere are some breeds of domestic cats that look like smaller versions of exotic/big cats. I'm hoping that this is the case here.
Just think about the food bill when a tiger is fully grown. And the litterbox cleanup. Yikes.
Plus, my cats are scary enough when they get freaked out, and they weigh less than fifteen pounds. Can you imagine trying to deal with a tiger, which has paws as big as your face? Double yikes.
P.S. Here's the Wikipedia entry on Bengals. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bengal_cat) They're a cool looking breed.

My bf's mother's cats (brother and sister from the same litter) are about 15 lbs. apiece. And they're most certainly not all muscle! :D

Good grief, that's a big panther/kitty you got there JgS!! My sisters cat was almost 20lbs before he passed away. He always was a big fat cat, you'd think that would've shortened his life, but he lived to be about 21.

VIRGO! 9.5 thats a smaller - probably average kitty...Mine are like 11-14lbs - they aren't fat just big!! One of them has some Maine Coon in him so I know that has a contributing factor.
Virgo Nightingale
08-30-2007, 09:07 PM
Yeah, she's a delicate flower. I gave her a bath once (which I don't think I could ever do again!) and it was amazing to see how small her body is once her fluffy hair is wet and clinging to her sides.
I've always considered average weight to be around 11 lbs for your average housecat. Put some Maine Coon DNA in that thing and all bets are off! Those things can get damn big!

Is she a husky or malamute? I tend to get those two mixed up. At any rate, she's gorgeous! I'd heard about both those breeds that they are very much on their own terms about most things.
Edit: nevermind, husky, I guess, since it's not unusual for them to have those different colored eyes. Again, she's gorgeous. :)

Funny story .... We were up at the lake last weekend and we brought Lola with us.
While we were eating my sister wanted to put Lola away from the grill and food. I hadn't paid much attention but she came back up the path to the lake and said she hooked her up to a cement block. (my brother has them scattered around - don't ask me why) I no sooner said I don't think that's going to hold her when she came galloping up the path dragging the block behind her.
My sister said I thought for sure that would hold her. I said .. well she is bred to pull sleds ... and she calls me a dumb blonde :D

I'm from the US originally, so I'm not sure what they would call them here in Quebec. They speak french here, so there's a different word for everything. :D
There are currently 47 breeds of rabbits recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders Association (http://www.arba.net/photo.htm). (I used to raise Tans and Netherland Dwarfs.)
Of these breeds, only 4 breeds are lops: English lops (which our GDF member CatinHat1 has) which have an ear span of about 36" from the tip of one ear to the tip of the other; French lops which are the biggest lops, if I remember right (it's been a long time); Mini lops, which grow to an adult size of about 8 pounds; and Holland lops, which reach an adult size of about 3 or 4 pounds.

Our cat Gibblet used to charge across the room and dive into any carrier bag that you put down. Then she would sit there in it and wait for you to carry her to another room in it. I swear she thought carrier bags were some weird form of teleportation device because she'd get in one room and when she came out she'd be in another room.

Tootsie makes me laught out loud too, though usually because she's done something retarded. My bf and I think she must've gotten dropped on her pretty little head as a kitten.
The other day I threw one of her toys from one room, across the hall and into another room. She went to go chase it, but instead of going straight into the other room where the toy was thrown, she turned and went sprinting the other way down the hall.
She also has this weird habit of meowing and meowing, begging for attention... But then you go to pet her and give her lovin's, and she turns and walks away. 30 seconds later, same thing... WTF???

the camera is a Canon PowerShot S2 1S... it doesn't accept additional lenses. I generally use the "scene" modes and just select something appropriate based on the lighting at the time. When it's overcast out and I'm using indoor lighting, I use the "indoor" setting, when I have more natural light to work with I use something else. I wish that I could say that there was more to it than that, but with cats I think it's more about having the patience to get a shot with good composition than it is about the settings that I use. I don't often have the time to fiddle with custom settings because the little buggers move around too much. :o ;)
Here's one of Tyrael checking to see if I'm still at the computer... it was dark so I had to use the flash.

Yep.... Pica helps me label the papers on Thursday... as you can see in the photo on the other thread... she sits on top of them.
Cooper likes to stick his butt in the other co-workers face while she's trying to type
they pretty much have the run of the place. Cooper greets people when they come in. Pica..... well, she's a little snob.
But yeah, during some down time, we play with them using a lazer light. So flippin funny!!
