Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience of designing custom templates for use with the Actinic e-commerce software? I'm working on a site redesign at the moment and this is doing my head in. The program appears to piece together web pages from about 60 html files.

Any help most appreciated. Cheers!

I hate templates too - that's why I'm designing a unique one for this site...

The Actinic software runs on your PC. You plug in all your product descriptions, prices, etc, choose a style and the software then churns out a whole website complete with Perl based shopping cart.

The standard design templates are terrible, the html conforms to no standards that I've ever seen and usability is completely ignored. The problem is that the client has been using this software for the last few years and so has hundreds of product and customers plugged in. He doesn't want to change software but he does want a better site.

I think is should be possible to produce a set of xhtml 1.0 strict templates that this software can use to produce a new, standards compliant version of the site. Problem is that it's complicated ...

Sounds complicated. I've never even heard of the software. You will have to just search through those 60 html files and find what part of the site they hold.

It is a noble cause. Good luck.

Yeah, complicated is being fairly kind ...

Still, maybe worth it in the long run. The business side of the software seems pretty comprehensive, offering most of what an online store keeper would need. If I can just get the damn thing producing clean code it could turn into something like 'Contribute for e-commerce'. That would be OK I guess ...
