I was just wondering if anyone has done something like this before. If so, do you have any tips for me as far as what not to do? I know it needs to be black and white and very low detail because it's a fax but didn't know if maybe someone had some more ideas. Thanks!

Heck, I've done several. Here's whatcha do:
Use sans-serif for the text, unless it's really big text. It is lesss likely to break up when faxed.
Use line art, b & W, no gradients and no screening. If you have to use photographs, up the contrast a bunch.
Make sure everything is a half-inch from the edge.
See if that works.

You're welcome.
The next step is to add, in all caps, 'FREE GETAWAY VACATION TO THE BAHAMAS - Viagra not included'. Then fax 'er off.

LOL @ 40th
That was my first thought when I saw this thread too.
PrintDriver is a large format digital print dude. His advice/opinions may not apply to the 4color/offset/web world of printing

Hey a paying gig is a paying gig. I was thinking I was going to end up doing something like that when I was first approached about this. Of course the fact that EVERYONE knows about those trips...means these faxes must get ppls attention! LOL
